Abstract

A locking device comprises a cup-shaped lock housing (10), which has a fixed locking pin (60) and bridges an eye (20) and a locking bolt (41). The lock housing receives a padlock (78), the shackle of which is threaded through the eye (20) and around the locking pin (60). The locking bolt (41) extends through a slit opening (50) in a partition wall (13) fixed in the housing. The locking bolt has a waist (54) that engages over the edges of the slot. One end of the slot has a widened portion (51) that allows the shank of the locking bolt to pass. The circumferential wall of the housing has an opening (70) to allow the housing to be pushed laterally over and away from the eye.

Description

A locking devxce
The invention relates to a locking device of the kind that is seen m the preamble of claim 1.
In locking devices known from the practice and of the kind in question, the housing is formed by housing parts that are carried by a respective one of the two plates m question (for instance a door and a wall m the vicinity of the door opening) and that are mter- connected m the closed state of the door, for the formation of a protective housing. The joint gaps of the housing should then be small m order not to prevent, for instance, a saw blade from being inserted through the gap, thereby preventing a cutting off of the padlock shackle inside the housing. However, the pivot mount- mg/hinge of the door is often subjected to unintentional adjustments, by wear or overload, so that the housing parts then will not meet each other. This means that the door suspension has to be adjusted or that the positions of the housing parts have to be adjusted, which involves cumbersome and time-consuming operations
Therefore, an object of the invention is to provide a locking device that is easily adjustable and can accommodate such changes m the suspension of the door. For such constructions, in which the lock housing is cup-shaped and, with the cup edge thereof, is to be laid closely against the door surface and the surface of the surrounding wall (which is m a common plane m the closed state of the door) , it is usually required that a section of a possible moulding, which extends along the gap between the door and the wall, is removed when the housing should bridge the gap, but thereby a displacement of the lock housing m the plane is made more difficult and a turning of the lock housing in the plane is prevented. Therefore, an additional object of the invention is to provide a locking device that holds the lock housing anchored to, for
instance, the wall, but allows the housing to be lifted up from the surface of the door and of the wall to be turnable without obstruction from the moulding ends, and allows the housing to be displaced without jamming. The objects are entirely or partly attained by the invention. The invention is defined in the appended claim 1.
Embodiments of the invention are defined in the appended dependent claims.
The invention may be applied to bridge two plates, one of which may be a door and the second may be a wall having an opening that receives the door. Alternatively, the plates may be two door leaves, the freely movable edges of which are adjacent to each other in a closed state.
In the following, the invention will be described by way of examples, reference being made to the appended drawing.

Fig. 1 shows a wall 1 having an opening 2, which receives a door leaf 3 that is turnably mounted on hinges 4 to and from a position, m which one surface of the door leaf substantially coincides with an adjacent surface of the wall 1.
The wall 1 is provided with a door-casmg moulding 5, which sur- rounds the opening 2.
A lock housing 10 bridges the gap between the wall 1 and the door leaf 3 at the freely movable end edge thereof. The housing 10 is generally cup-shaped and has a circumferential wall 11 and an end wall 12 that forms the bottom of the cup shape. In the cup-shaped housing, there is a partition wall 13 that is sub¬ stantially parallel to the end wall 12 and is situated at a distance from the verge 14 of the cup-shaped housing 10, which substantially lies m a plane.
In Fig. 3, it can be seen that the housing verge 14 rests on one mam surface of the door 3 that lies m the same plane as one mam surface of the wall 1.
From Fig. 2, it can be understood that a longitudinal section of the casing moulding 5 is removed to allow the housing verge 14 to abut against the wall surface and the door surface by the entire extension thereof.
In Fig. 3, it can be seen that an eyebolt 20 extends through an opening 31 m the door 3, and has a threaded section 21 carrying a nut 22. A pin tumbler 23 rests against the door 3 in the plane against which the housing verge 14 rests, and the nut 22 rests against the opposite main surface of the door. The bolt 20 has, at the end part thereof received m the housing, a transverse through opening 24. Through the wall 1, there is an opening 40 that receives a threaded portion 42 of an anchor bolt (locking bolt) , which is provided with a nut 44, 45 on each side of the wall 1, so that the anchor bolt 41 can be given a selected axial position m relation to the wall opening 40. Furthermore, it can be seen that the bolt 41 extends through a slot 50 m the partition wall 13 and has a ring flange 46, which rests against the edges of the slot 50 on the side of the partition wall that is facing the wall 1. It will be appreciated that the nuts 44, 45 and the bolt 41 can be mutually adjusted so that the ring flange 46 bears plane-parallelly against the parti- tion wall 13 when the housing verge 14 is parallel and has a selected, small distance to the door leaf 1, 3 and the wall 1. The ring flange offers a stable surface-extended support of the partition wall in the plane thereof so that the housing conveniently can be slidmgly displaced on the flange 46. The contact surfaces of the flange 46 and of the wall 13 may be greased. The bolt 41 is shown to be at one end of the slot, when the bolt 20 is correctly received in a space 28 in the opposite part of the housing 10. The slot 50 generally extends toward the space 28 and has, closest to the same, a widening 51, which allows axial passage of the bolt shank 41, but not the flange 46. In the drawing, particularly Fig. 3, it is seen that the bolt 41 has a circumferential groove 54, the bottom diameter of which is somewhat smaller than the free width of the narrow part of the slot 50. The widened portion 51 of the slot 51 has a diameter that is approximately equal to, but somewhat greater than the outer diameter of the bolt to allow the circumferential groove of the bolt to leave the edges of the narrow slot part, when the bolt 41 is centred m the widened slot portion 51, so that the housing 10 can be lifted from the wall 1, 3 m order to clear the mouldings 5, 5'. The head 42 of the bolt 41 is larger than the widened portion 51 of the slot, whereby the bolt head is blocked from passing the slot portion 51. Preferably, the widened portion 51, as well as the cross-section of the shank of the bolt, has a circular shape. A stopper shoulder 52 is shown placed on the partition wall 13 m order to centre the bolt 41 in the widened slot portion 51 upon contact with the bolt shank. In this way, the axial displacement of the bolt shank through the portion 51 is facilitated. The stopper 52 may have an extension m the circumferential direction of the portion 51 m order to centre the bolt shank also transverse to the longitudinal direction of the slot.
Furthermore, it can be seen that the bolt 41 has a head 42' , which cannot pass the slot 50 or the widened portion 51 thereof.
Between the end wall 12 and the partition wall 13, there is a pm 60 steadily fixed. A padlock shackle of a padlock can be thread through the boring 24 of the bolt 20 and around the ratchpm 60 situated next to the pm 20 and be secured to the lock housing of the padlock such as is outlined by dashed lines m Fig. 3.
From Figs. 5 and 4, it can be understood that the circumferential wall 11 has an opening 70, through which the projecting part of the pin 20 can be inserted laterally into the space 28 inside the housing 10. Furthermore, it can be seen that the space 28 is placed m a corner area of, for instance, the illustrated orthogonally paral- lelepipedic housing 10, while the position of the anchor bolt 41 and thereby the corresponding end of the slot 50 is situated m the cen- tre of the width and next to the short side of the section of the housing m the plane of the partition wall 13.
The circumferential wall 11 has also an opening 74 to allow inser¬ tion of at least a part of the lock case 78 of the padlock into the housing, between the partition wall 13 and the end wall 12. The circumferential wall 11 is shown to have a generally rectangular tubular shape, having four sides, wherein the side having the opening 74 usually should be turned downward. In Fig. 8, the housing side having the opening 74 is shown to be partially screened by a wall por- tion 17, so that the opening 74 is adapted to the lock case of the padlock. The wall portion 17 then makes accessibility to the head bolt 41 more difficult, but makes the mounting and dismounting, respectively, of the padlock 78 more cumbersome. However, it should be clear that the bolt 41 is very robust and that the wall portion 17, therefore, may be omitted entirely or partly. Figs. 6 and 7 illustrate that the lock housing 10 with the appurtenant bolts 20, 41 may be mounted to bridge two nearby verge parts of a pair of pivotally mounted doors, at least one of which may have a moulding or rebate 5', a longitudinal section of which should be removed to allow the lock housing 10, with the cup edge thereof, to be closely applicable against the surfaces of the door plates 3, 1', wherein Fig. 2 may be regarded as corresponding to a section taken along the line II-II in Fig. 7.
From a state with the padlock locked in the depiction according to Fig. 3, the padlock can be opened and the padlock shackle 79 can be unhooked from the bolt opening 24 and the anchor pin 60, after which the padlock may be taken out through the housing opening 74. The housing 10 may now be displaced to the right in Fig. 3, so that the pin 20 leaves the housing 10 via the opening 70 of the circumferen- tial wall 11 until the bolt shank strikes against the stopper 52, after which the housing 10 may be lifted off perpendicularly from the surface of the door 3, whereby the housing 1 is lifted up from the interruption of the moulding 5. The housing 10 can now be turned around the bolt 41 and be brought away from the gap between the wall opening and the door leaf 3, so that the door can be opened.
It will be appreciated that the extension of the slot 50 and the turnability of the housing around the bolt 41 can accommodate for varying distances and mutual positions of the bolts 20, 41, and that the mounting of the bolt 41 allows an adjustment of the housing verge 14 close to the door 3 and the wall 1, and that the widened portion 51 of the slot allows the housing to partially be lifted from the wall surface 1 out of the interruption of the moulding 51 for turning purposes. Furthermore, it will be appreciated that the pin 60 has an accessibility-protected position inside the lock housing and that the padlock shackle 79, in practice, is inaccessible from outside, so that the lock housing offers an efficient protection for the padlock and the locking device.
The locking peg 23 may have a simple design and may be replaced by a ring flange or the like attached to the bolt 20 and resting against the wall 3 around the opening 31 thereof.
As an alternative to the design of the head 42' of the bolt 41 shown in Fig. 3, the bolt head 42' may, as is shown in Fig. 9, be formed of a radial protuberance from the bolt shank 41 at the end of the bolt shank. In that connection, the radial protuberance 42' is formed so that the width and length thereof in a normal plane to the axis of the bolt is smaller than the width and the length, respectively, of the narrow part of the slot 50. The width of the protu- berance 42' is preferably substantially equal to, but somewhat smaller than the width of the slot 50, so that the protuberance 42' has to lie precisely aligned toward the narrow part of the slot 50 in order to be able to pass through the slot. In this way, the mounting of the head bolt through the slot is facilitated. The bolt 41 is oriented so that the protuberance 42' is directed transverse to the longitudinal direction of the narrow part of the slot, in the mounted locked state of the locking device, and offers, in that connection, the same function as the head 42' in the embodiment according to Fig. 3. However, the protuberance/bolt head 42' according to Fig. 9 allows the possibility to a threading through the slot 50.

Claims
1. A locking device comprising a cup-shaped lock housing (10), which is arranged to receive a shackle (79) belonging to a padlock (78, 79), the lock housing (10) being arranged to bridge a gap between two nearby plates (1, 1'; 3) when the same substantially lie m a common plane, one of the plates being a door plate (3), which is movable m relation to the other plate, the concave side of the cup being facing the plates, one of the plates on the side thereof turned against the cup being provided with a fixedly connected eye, which can be received m the lock housing (10), the lock housing (10) being connected to the other plate (1), and the shackle of the padlock (78, 79) being arranged to engage around an anchoring part (60) of the housing (10) and through the eye (20, 24), charac- terxzed m that the lock housing (10) is connected to the other plate (1) by means of a locking bolt (41), which is received in the lock housing (10) and extends through a slot (50) in a wall (13) fixed in the lock housing (10) , which wall is generally parallel to the opening verge (14) of the lock housing, that the edges of the slot (50) are received in a waist (54) in the shank of the locking bolt m the locked state of the locking device, the distance of the waist from the plates being selected to allow the waist, via the fixed wall (13), to carry the housing (10) with little play m relation to the plates (1, 1'; 3), that the lock housing (10) has an opening (70) m the circumferential wall thereof to allow the eye to be inserted in an appurtenant space (28) inside the lock housing (10), that the slot (50) extends generally toward the space (28), and that the slot (50), at the end thereof turned against the space (28), has a widened portion (51), which allows the shank portion of the locking bolt between the head and the waist to pass.
2. Locking device according to claim 1, characterized xn that the anchoring part (60) is a bar that extends between the bottom wall of the lock housing and the partition wall (13) .
3. Locking device according to claim 1, characterxzed in that the circumferential wall opening (70) of the housing for the eye (20, 24) is aligned toward the head bolt (41) and the eye (20, 24).
4. Locking device according to any one of claims 1-3, characterized in that the eye comprises a bolt (20) having a through boring (24) at the end of the bolt.
5. Locking device according to any one of claims 1-4, charac- teπzed in that the locking bolt (41) extends with a threaded portion through the plate (1) and carries a nut (44, 45) on each side of the plate (1) co-operating therewith, whereby the locking bolt (41) is axially adjustable m relation to the plate (1) .
6. Locking device according to any one of claims 1-5, characterized in that the waist surface of the locking bolt that carries the housing is radially widened by a main surface of a ring flange attached to the bolt shank.
7. Locking device according to any one of claims 1-6, characterized in that the distance between the waist and the head (42') at least corresponds to the height of a moulding mounted on any of the plates (1, 3), when the housing (11) extends through an interruption of the moulding (5) .

Locking device according to any one of claims 1-7, characterized in that the partition wall (13) of the lock housing carries a stopper (52), which m the displacement end position of the locking bolt (1) co-operates with the shank of the locking bolt is cen- tred m the widened portion (51) of the slot.
9. Locking device according to any one of claims 1-8, characterized in that the wall of the lock housing has an opening between the end wall (12) and partition wall (13) of the housing, for the insertion of the padlock (78, 79) so as to engage around the anchoring part (60) and through the eye (20, 24) .
10. Locking device according to any one of claims 1-9, characterized in that the free end of the locking bolt has a head (42') projecting radially in relation to the shank.
11. Locking device according to claim 10, characterized in that the head of the locking bolt is in the form of a radially projecting protuberance (42'), the width of which is at most equal to the width of the narrow part of the slot (50) and preferably is substantially equal to the width of the narrow part of the slot.
