Abstract

An aqueous dispersion including (A) at least one base polymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based co-polymer and a propylene-based co-polymer; (B) at least one polymeric stabilizing agent; and at least one filler; wherein the polymeric stabilizing agent is different from the at least one base polymer and is compatible with the at least one base polymer and the at least one filler, and wherein the dispersion has filler in the range of greater than 0 to about 600 parts per hundred parts of a combined amount of the at least one base polymer and the polymeric stabilizing agent is disclosed.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on June 26, 2007 (26.06.07)
1. A caipet comprising: a substrate; and an aqueous dispersion, the dispersion comprising:
(A) at least one base polymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based co-polymer and a propylene-based co-polymer; and
(B) at least one polymeric stabilizing agent; at least one -filler; wherein the polymeric stabilizing agent is different from the at least one base polymer and is compatible with the at least one base polymer and the at least one filler, and wherein the dispersion has filler in the range of greater than 0 to about 600 parts per hundred parts of a combined amount of the at least one base polymer and the polymeric stabilizing agent.
2. The carpet of claim 1 , wherein the at least one base polymer comprises about 35% to 55% by volume of the aqueous dispersion.
3. The carpet of claim 1, wherein the stabilizing agent comprises at least one neutralized polar polymer.
4. The carpet of claim 3, wherein the polar polymer comprises at least one selected from a polyolefin having a polar group as co-monomer and a polyolefm having a polar group as grafted monomer.
5. The carpet of claim 4, wherein a combined amount of the at least one base polymer and the polymeric stabilizing agent comprises about 1 to about 74 volume percent of the aqueous dispersion.
6. The carpet of claim 1, wherein the compound has apH from about 6 to about 14.
7. The carpet of claim 1 , wherein the aqueous dispersion has an average particle size from about 0.3 to about 3.0 microns.

8. The carpet of claim 1, further comprising at least one selected from a wetting agent, surfactants, anti-static agents, a neutralizing agent, a frothing agent, a thickener, a rheology modifier, a biocide, and a fungicide.
9. A method of making a carpet comprising the steps of: selecting a substrate: selecting an aqueous dispersion comprising:
(A) at least one base polymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based co-polymer and a propylene- based co-polymer; and
(B) at least one polymeric stabilizing agent at least one filler, wherein the polymeric stabilizing agent is different from the at least one base polymer and is compatible with the at least one base polymer and the at least one filler, and wherein the dispersion has filler in the range of greater than 0 to about 600 parts per hundred parts of a combined amount of the at least one base polymer and the polymeric stabilizing agent; frothing the dispersion with a gas; and applying the frothed dispersion to a said substrate.
10. The method of claim 9, further comprising removing at least a portion of the water by exposing the substrate to an elevated temperature.

11. The method of claim 9, further comprising removing at least a portion of the water by exposing the substrate to an elevated temperature, wherein the temperature is 65 - 125 0C.
12. The method of claim 9, wherein the substrate comprises a woven or non-woven textile.
13. A method of carpet construction, comprising: applying a compound as an adhesive layer to a carpet, the compound comprising:
(A) at least one base polymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based co-polymer and a propylene-based co-polymer;
(B) at least one polymeric stabilizing agent; and
(C) at least one filler; wherein the polymeric stabilizing agent is different from the at least one base polymer and is compatible with the at least one base polymer and the at least one filler, and wherein the dispersion has filler in the range of greater than 0 to about 600 parts per hundred parts of a combined amount of the at least one base polymer and the polymeric stabilizing agent.
14. The method of claim 13, wherein the carpet comprises a woven carpet.
15. The method of claim 13, wherein the carpet comprises a needlepunch carpet.
16. The method of claήn 13, Wherein the carpet comprises a tufted carpet.
17. The method of claim 13, wherein the carpet comprises an artificial turf.
18. An article comprising a first substrate and a second substrate, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are bound together by an aqueous dispersion comprising:
(A) at least one base polymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based co-polymer and a propylene- based co-polymer; and
(B) at least one polymeric stabilizing agent at least one filler, wherein the polymeric stabilizing agent is different from the at least one base polymer and is compatible with the at least one base polymer and the at least one filler, and wherein the dispersion has filler in the range of greater than 0 to about 600 parts per hundred parts of a combined amount of the at least one base polymer and the polymeric stabilizing agent;
19. The method according to claim 9, wherein said method further comprising the step of elevating the temperature of said carpet to a temperature in the range of equal or greater than the melting point of said polymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based thermoplastic polymer, a propylene-based thermoplastic polymer, and mixtures thereof.
20. The method according to claim 9, wherein said method further comprising the step of elevating the temperature of said carpet to a temperature in the range of less than the melting point of said polymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based thermoplastic polymer, a propylene-based thermoplastic polymer, and mixtures thereof.
21. An article comprising: a carpet; and a film comprising; a continuous base polymer phase, wherein said base polymer being selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based thermoplastic polymer, a propylene-based thermoplastic polymer, and mixtures thereof; and a discrete stabilizing agent phase dispersed in said continuous base polymer phase.
22. An article comprising: a carpet; and a film comprising; a continuous stabilizing agent phase; and a discrete base polymer phase dispersed in said continuous stabilizing agent phase, wherein said base polymer being selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based thermoplastic polymer, a propylene-based thermoplastic polymer, and mixtures thereof.
