Abstract

A communication system comprises an apparatus, such as a voicemail server (111), for processing voice messages. The apparatus (111) comprises a network receiver (201) which receives voice messages, such as voicemail messages. A speech recogniser (205) performs speech recognition on the voice message to generate topic data, such as keywords, for the voice message. A categorisation processor (207) determines if the voice message corresponds to an excluded category for the recipient of the voice message. This is determined in response to the topic data and specifically a statistical pattern matching between keywords of the voice message and of keywords of the excluded category may be used. A discard processor (209) discards the voice message if the voice message corresponds to the excluded category. The invention may reduce the number of unwanted voice messages provided to a user.
