Description
"ARRANGEMENT IN INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR"
The present descriptive specification refers to a patent of invention for an interior rearview mirror belonging to the field of automotive accessories, which received an arrangement so that in addition to fulfilling its usual function, it will allow for the organized installation of auxiliary system components and others included in the vehicle.
Modern automotive vehicles are provided with enclosed auxiliary systems intended to perform vehicle driving-related functions, such as for example, the Advanced Warning System, which warns the driver about traffic situations, such as a distance from the vehicle ahead shorter than the safe distance; lane departure without signaling with the signal light; imminence of a collision with the vehicle ahead and other situations likely to occur when driving a car. Automatic headlight system, which turns on the car headlights automatically when driving in a dark or poorly illuminated location. Automatic windshield wiper system. Automatic vehicle identification system for automatic toll payment. Vehicle anti-theft and safety systems and others. Usually, these systems require the use of sensors which have to be set up in the front region of the vehicle. Many of these sensors are set up in the windshield and control board. While this form of installation allows the sensors to work properly, it's desirable to have them set up in a more organized way.
Therefore, the object of the present patent of invention is to provide an interior rearview mirror, which besides its usual function is provided with features allowing an organized installation of several sensors and other components of auxiliary systems and others included in the vehicle.
Another object is to provide a rearview mirror, which besides meeting the above purposes, will not involve for this very same reason high levels of construction or manufacture complexity which may cause it to become uninteresting when compared to conventional mirrors.
Another object is to provide a rearview mirror at a suitable cost.
Therefore, in view of the above-mentioned aspects, and with an aim at meeting the mentioned objectives, the arrangement for an interior rearview mirror, object of the present patent of invention, has been developed, and consists of providing the interior rearview mirror with the interior rearview mirror itself; and an organizing enclosure which occupies the whole space behind the interior rearview mirror itself, this latter being extended and the windshield; said organizing enclosure being provided with a front structure for setting up the interior rearview mirror itself; the inner side of said organizing enclosure, between the mentioned front structure up
to the rear end, being suitable to house components of several auxiliary systems included in the vehicle; at least one part of a supporting device being externally mounted in the upper wall of said organizing enclosure, and the other part of the supporting device being a "pad" which receives said first part and is mounted in the windshield, and the lower wall of said organizing enclosure being articulated and featuring a DVD system screen mounted therein.
This form of construction of the interior rearview mirror allows it to fulfill its usual function of providing the driver with a rear view, and additionally, allows an organized installation of components of countless auxiliary systems included in the vehicle, so far mounted in a dispersed way in the front region of the vehicle.
Further, the present interior rearview mirror allows setting up the DVD system screen in a functional way, once it may be arranged in a non-use position, i.e. retracted against the lower region of the enclosure, and a use position when it is tilted downwards.
The attached drawings refer to an arrangement introduced into an interior rearview mirror, object of the present patent, in which: Fig. 1 shows, as a non-restrictive illustration, a perspective view of the mirror mounted in the windshield; and
Fig. 2 shows a side view of the interior rearview mirror mounted in the windshield, and its lower wall, where the DVD system screen is mounted, in its non-use position, i.e. retracted against the lower face of the mirror enclosure, and an indication of the use position of said wall when it is tilted downwards.
According to what is shown in the above- mentioned figures, the interior rearview mirror object of the present patent of invention is intended to provide the automotive vehicle driver with the usual rear view, and also allow the organized installation of the components 200 of several auxiliary systems and others included in the vehicle.
The present interior rearview mirror comprises essentially: the interior rearview mirror itself 1; organizing enclosure 10 which occupies the whole space behind the interior rearview mirror itself 1 extended between the mirror and the windshield 100, and at the front end of the referred to organizing enclosure 10, the mentioned interior rearview mirror itself 1 is arranged; said interior rearview mirror is further formed by: bracket 20-21 whose part 20 is mounted in the organizing enclosure 10, and part 21 which receives the first part is mounted in the windshield 100; and electric connection means 30 mounted in the organizing enclosure 10 to which power cable(s) 110 of the vehicle electric system is (are) connected supplying power to the components 200 of the systems set up inside the
organizing enclosure 10.
In detail, the interior rearview mirror assembly itself 1 is substantially equal to the conventional one, i.e. it comprises essentially: a mirror 2; a mirror supporting plate 3; a mechanism 4 mounted in the back of the supporting plate 3 which allows moving the mirror and supporting plate assembly 2-3 around vertical and horizontal axes.
The organizing enclosure 10 comprises: a front structure 11 in which the mechanism 4 of the interior rearview mirror assembly itself 1 is mounted; upper wall 12 located next to and parallel with the windshield 100, and at whose outer surface, part 20 of bracket 20-21 is mounted; side, opposite walls 13 at least one of which being mounted in order to be able to be dismantled or articulated to provide access to the inside of the organizing enclosure 10; and lower, articulated wall or frame 14, which is articulated at the rear end of the organizing enclosure 10, and may be arranged in a retracted position against the lower part thereof and a position which is tilted downwards.
The front structure 11, upper wall 12, lower wall or frame 14 and side walls 13 define the inner space 15 of the organizing enclosure 10 suitable to house the components 200 of auxiliary systems and others included in the vehicle and which have to be arranged in the front region thereof, such as for example, sensors.
The bracket 20-21 is preferably of the type formed by: a "pad" 21 which is mounted in the windshield 100 and in which the part 20 is sheltered and mounted in the upper wall 12 of the organizing enclosure 10. The electric connection means 30 is preferably mounted in the upper wall 12 of the organizing enclosure 10.
The lower wall or frame 14 is suitable to receive mounting of a screen 201 of a DVD system.
Other systems usually mounted in rearview mirrors, such as courtesy light and others 40, may also be mounted in the organizing enclosure 10.
Auxiliary systems included in the vehicle, whose sensors or other components 200 are mounted in the organizing enclosure 10 of the rearview mirror of the invention may be any of those usually featured by modern automotive vehicles requiring components, like sensors or others, mounted in the front region of the vehicle, i.e. systems interacting with agents outside the vehicle, such as: Advanced Warning System which warns the driver about traffic situations; Automatic headlight or windshield wiper systems; Automatic vehicle identification system for automatic toll payment; Vehicle anti-theft and safety systems and others. Systems interacting with agents inside the vehicle, such as for example, modern
systems for monitoring if the driver falls asleep when driving, and sounding alarms in case the driver closes his/her eyes; system for monitoring the temperature inside the vehicle compartment and others.
According to the basic construction described above, the interior rearview mirror object of the present patent may show modifications associated with materials, dimensions, constructive details and/or functional and/or ornamental configuration without departing from the scope of the protection requested.
According to the foregoing, the configuration and dimension of the organizing enclosure 10 is determined substantially by the interior rearview mirror itself 1 and the windshield gradient 100.
The gap between the upper wall 12 of the organizing enclosure 10 and the windshield 100 may be closed with a rubber packing which acts like a seal and damper to prevent the wall periphery from touching the windshield upon vibration caused by the vehicle in motion.
