Abstract
The invention relates to a product kit (10) containing supplies for stopping bleeding at a trauma site. The product kit (10) comprises a core part (3), around which is wound a certain length of transparent bandage film (1) of elastically stretching material, which is self-adhesive when wrapped around itself. Inside the core (3) is placed at least one bag part (2) of transparent flexible material, which is filled beforehand or may be filled at the time of use with a transparent medium. The bag part acts in use as a means for intensifying the pressure effect applied on the bleeding site.
Description
Product package
The present invention relates to a product kit or package containing supplies for stopping bleeding at a trauma site.
To stop bleeding at different trauma sites, fabric bandages are normally used which are knotted or fastened with hooks at the end. One problem with these is the risk of wrapping the bandage too tightly, which in the worst case could lead to gangrene, and on the other hand, the bandage may loosen, for example, due to a knot or hook failing, which might prevent the bleeding from stopping. The correct use of a fabric bandage requires proper knowledge of the matter.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a solution which enables also users with no previous experience of wound dressing to dress a wound reliably in order to stop bleeding. To achieve this aim, the product kit according to the invention is characterised in that the product kit comprises a core part, around which is wound a certain length of transparent bandage film of elastically stretching material, which is self-adhesive when wrapped around itself, and inside the core is placed at least one bag part of transparent flexible material, which is filled beforehand or may be filled at the time of use with a transparent medium, the said bag part acting in use as a means for intensifying the pressure effect applied on the bleeding site.
The invention is described in greater detail in the following, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a schematic perspective view of a product kit according to the invention and the various components comprised therein, and
Figures 2-6 show the use of the bandage comprised in the product kit at different stages.
The product kit 10 comprises a core part 3 around which is wound the necessary amount of bandage film and topmost a label 4 acting as a protective cover. The product kit further comprises one or more bag parts 2 intended to be packed inside the core part 3. Figure 1 shows two exemplary separate bag parts. The label 4 acts as a tear-off part when the product kit containing the bandage film is opened. Reference numeral 7 denotes the instructions for use, which are preferably packed inside the core part, and reference numeral 8 denotes an exemplary storage or sales package in which the product kit 10 may be placed. This storage package may be a transparent plastic bag.
Figure 2 illustrates the opening of the bandage film package, where the user grips the core part 3 with one hand and the free end of the transparent bandage film 1 with the other hand, while the label part 4 acts as a protective cover. The bandage film 1 is preferably of plastic having a suitable material composition, such as linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). Due to the thinness of the film (film thickness may be e.g. 0.023 mm), the product kit may contain a considerable length of bandage film, for example of the order of 30 m, without becoming an inconveniently large roll. This allows it to be used on several wounds (e.g. splinter injuries around the body). The bandage film is disposable and thus does not present a risk of microbe contamination. This type of film material stretches and at the same time penetrates the wound/hollow when wrapped, for example, around a limb or the torso. The bandage film attaches to itself, remaining secured, but not adhering to the skin or clothing, and constitutes a tight, sturdy, but flexible support bandage also for supporting fractured limbs. The bandage film yields, for example, to the movements of the chest without loosening and maintains its tightness. On the other hand, due to its material
properties, the bandage film tightens in an optimally sealing manner, but will not be able to cause, for example, gangrene. The action is based more on sealing than on applying pressure/compression on the wound, the bandage film acting, as it were, temporary artificial skin.
The implementation of the bandage film contained in the product kit according to the invention is easy. One or more layers of bandage film are first wrapped around the wound 5, after which a bag part 2 is placed on the wound site and more bandage film 1 is wrapped around the bag part. Securing the bandage is easy because the bandage will not loosen even if it falls from the hands during wrapping. Figure 3 illustrates this stage.
The use of the bandage film is further facilitated by the fact that it can be cut by pulling, in which case the bandage stretches and breaks while tightening and securing. Figure 4 illustrates the tightening and cutting of the bandage film by pulling. The width of the bandage film is preferably the same as that of current fabric bandages, for example, within the range of approximately 50-150 mm.
The bag part 2 is preferably of elastic material and filled, for example, with air or other transparent gas/gas mixture, liquid, emulsion or gelatinous substance or their mixture. One suitable example is fluid silicone. The bag part directs the tightening force of the wrapped bandage more intensively (perpendicularly) at the wound, thereby compressing the damaged blood vessels, and presses the stretching film inside the wound, thus increasing tightness. The bag part is simultaneously formed so as to distribute the pressure evenly. The transparent bag part forms, as it were, a window to the wound, by means of which the stopping of bleeding can be ensured both after applying the bandage and in transferring the patient. Due to the transparency, the state of the trauma site may also be otherwise observed (gangrene, infection, ...). It can also be ensured that the edges of the wound
are properly against each other, which means that the healing of the wound can start immediately and after the removal of the bandage, the edges of the wound do not have to reconstructed, but can be sutured immediately. Figure 5 shows a completed bandage which forms a transparent window for observing the wound site. Figure 6 shows a cross-section of the wound site.
The core part 3 is dimensioned so as to have a suitable diameter for fitting in the hand when the bandage is wrapped around the wound site and its interior is dimensioned to receive one or more bag parts. The diameter of the core part may be, for example, within the range of 25-50 mm.
Claims
1. A product kit (10) containing supplies for stopping bleeding at a trauma site, characterised in that the product kit (10) comprises a core part (3), around which is wound a certain length of transparent bandage film (1) of elastically stretching material, which is self-adhesive when wrapped around itself, and inside the core (3) is placed at least one bag part (2) of transparent flexible material, which is filled beforehand or may be filled at the time of use with a transparent medium, the said bag part acting in use as a means for intensifying the pressure effect applied on the bleeding site.
2. A product kit as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the bandage film (1) is linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE).
3. A product kit as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the width of the bandage film (1) is within the range of approximately 50-150 mm.
4. A product kit as claimed in any of the claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the diameter of the core part (3) is within the range of approximately 20-50 mm.
5. A product kit as claimed in any of the claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the bag part (2) is filled with air or other transparent gas/gas mixture.
6. A product kit as claimed in any of the claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the bag part (2) is filled with a transparent liquid/liquid mixture or a gelatinous substance.
