In addition, the needle connecting portion of the syringe is formed of a plastic material, to which the needle is integrally coupled, having a shape corresponding to the injection portion. The needle connecting portion is inserted into the injection portion to be coupled to the main body of the syringe.
In the conventional syringe, the needle connecting portion and the main body of the syringe are coupled to each other only in a forced insertion method. Accordingly, if an external force in an axial direction is applied to the syringe, the needle connecting portion is likely to be escaped from the main body of the syringe. In addition, if the external force is applied to the injection portion having the tapered-shape, the injection portion is easily broken. To solve the above problems, the needle connecting portion may be coupled to the main body of the syringe in a rotating manner; however, production costs of the syringe increase in this case. In addition, the rotating method may not have sufficient fixing force, either, because the fixing force is only dependent on a frictional force.
To solve the above problems, a Luer lock type syringe has been suggested. As shown in FIGS. 1 through 3, a Luer lock type medical connecting apparatus includes a nozzle 2, in which an inner path 2a is formed in an axial direction thereof, including a bearing connection surface 3 formed as a cone with cut end and a ring maintain portion 4; a flange 5 for forming an open sheet 5a in the axial direction, the flange 5 including a wall 6 including a distal portion 6a having an inner screw 12 and a lateral proximal portion 6b, in which a center opening having a diameter that is the same as that of the ring maintain portion 4 of the nozzle, and fixing on the nozzle 2 by translating and/or rotating toward the nozzle due to an engagement between the ring maintain portion 4 of the nozzle 2 and a center maintain opening 7; and a connecting member 8 including a bearing connection surface 9 becoming a pair with the bearing connection surface of the nozzle 2 and at least one outer lateral wing 10 for forming a screw 11 that is coupled to the inner screw 12 of the flange 5, and the connecting member 8 includes an inner side communicating with an axial pipe 13 so that a fluid may flow therebetween. The ring maintain portion 4 of the nozzle 2 and/or the center maintain opening 7 of the flange 5 may include a circular band or cord 4a that is coated with a roughening agent.
according to the conventional Luer lock type syringe, the shape of the syringe should be deformed so that the flange may be inserted into the syringe in order to install the flange in the syringe. Thus, the Luer lock type syringe may not be applied to general syringes, and fabrication of the Luer lock type syringe costs a lot.
The present invention provides an adapter for a syringe, which is universal to be applied to conventional syringes and fixes a needle to a main body of the syringe with a sufficient force, an adapter assembly for a syringe, a syringe, and a method of fabricating the syringe.
According to the adapter for the syringe of the present embodiment, the needle may be firmly fixed in the main body of the syringe when a universal syringe is used. That is, according to the adapter for the syringe of the present embodiment, the self-threading thread is formed on the inner surface of the supporting member having the high hardness because the main body of the syringe is formed of plastic material that has lower hardness than that of the supporting member, and the self-threading thread forms the male screw on the surface of the main body of the syringe while rotating, and thereby firmly coupling to the main body of the syringe.
In particular, the main body of the universal syringe may be used, and there is no need to perform an additional process on the surface of the main body for the fixed coupling operation. Therefore, fabrication costs of the syringe may be reduced.

Embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to accompanying drawings. In the present specification, a terminology “self-threading thread” refers to a supporting member that may perform a threading operation by itself, and in more detail, a thread, that is, the supporting member, forming a male screw on a surface of a main body of a syringe by rotating.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, a syringe 100 includes a main body 110 and an adapter assembly 120 for the syringe. The adapter assembly 120 for the syringe includes a needle maintaining member 130 and an adapter for a syringe.
The main body 110 includes a cylindrical body portion 111, and an injection portion 112 extending from a side of the body portion 111 and formed as a taper having a diameter that is less than that of the body portion 111. Here, a stick having an air-tightening member may be inserted into the other side of the body portion 111, and a solution stored in the body portion 111 may be discharged to the injection portion 112 according to a movement of the stick.
The main body 110 of the syringe may include one of polypropylene, acetyl, polycarbonate, and an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene terpolymer (ABS) resin; however, the present invention is not limited thereto. That is, the main body 110 of the syringe may be formed of various plastic materials or various metal materials such as aluminum having a low hardness.
On the other hand, the main body 110 of the syringe is similar to those of general syringes, and thus, detailed descriptions of the main body 110 are not provided here.
A needle 150 is inserted and coupled to the adapter assembly 120 for the syringe, and the adapter assembly 120 supports the needle 150 against the main body 110 of the syringe. In detail, the needle 150 is disposed at a side where the injection portion 112 is disposed, and the adapter assembly 120 supports the needle 150 so that the solution discharged from the injection portion 112 may be induced into the needle 150.
The adapter assembly 120 for the syringe includes a needle maintaining member 130, and the adapter for the syringe.
The needle maintaining member 130, in which the needle 150 is inserted, includes a need insertion portion 131, to which the needle 150 is coupled, and a maintaining body 132 bending from the need insertion portion 131 and extending in a direction to correspond to the injection portion 112. The needle maintaining member 130 has an outer appearance formed as a truncated cone having a trapezoidal cross-section. Here, a first screw thread 132a is formed on an outer circumferential surface at an end portion of the maintaining body 132, and the first screw thread 132a may have a spiral shape. However, embodiments of the present invention are not limited thereto, and a general needle connecting unit according to the conventional art, in which a flange is formed on a lower end of a general truncated cone and a needle is inserted on an upper end, may be used.
The adapter for the syringe is a supporting member 140. In addition, a fixing portion 141, to which the needle maintain portion 130 is detachably coupled, is disposed on a side of the supporting member 140, and a screw portion 142 including a self-threading thread 142a that may form a male screw 113 on a surface of the main body 110 may be disposed on the other side of the supporting member 140. The supporting member 140 may be formed as a cylinder. Thus, when the supporting member 140 is inserted into the main body 110 while rotating, the self-threading thread 142a forms the male screw 113 on the surface of the main body 110. In addition, the supporting member 140 may be coupled firmly and air-tightly to the main body 110 of the syringe due to the male screw 113.
In more detail, the fixing portion 141 is formed as a cylinder having an inner diameter that may receive the needle maintain member 130 therein. In addition, the screw portion 142 extends from the fixing portion 141, and may be formed as a cylinder having a diameter that is greater than that of the fixing portion and corresponds to that of the body portion 111 of the main body 110.
A second screw thread 141a that may be coupled to the first screw thread 132a is formed on an inner circumferential surface of the fixing portion 141 so that the needle maintain member 130 may be coupled to the fixing portion 141.
The self-threading thread 142a that may form the male screw 113 on the surface of the main body 110 during being inserted into the main body 110 is formed on the screw portion 142. The self-threading thread 142a may have a spiral direction that is same as or opposite to that of the second screw thread 141a. In addition, a single self-threading thread 142a or plural self-thread threads 142a may be formed. If a plurality of self-threading threads 142a are formed, a distance from a root of the thread to a peak point is increased as being apart from the end portion of the screw portion 142. A size of the self-threading thread 142a is small so as to be easily inserted into the main body 110 of the syringe at an initial stage of the insertion operation, and then, the size of the thread 142a is increased so that the self-threading thread 142a may be firmly fixed in the main body 110.
The self-threading thread 142a of the screw portion 142 is formed on an inner circumferential surface of the supporting member 140. When it is assumed that a minimum inner diameter of the self-threading thread 142a is d1 and a minimum outer diameter of a portion of the main body 110, which corresponds to the self-threading thread 142a, is d2, it may be d1 < d2 - 0.1mm. On the other hand, d1 may be greater than d2 - 0.9mm (d1 > d2 - 0.9mm) in consideration of an easiness of insertion into the main body 110 of the syringe, more preferably, d1 > d2 - 0.6mm, and for example, d1 > d2 - 0.4mm.
That is, when the main body 110 of the syringe and the adapter for the syringe are coupled to each other so that the adapter for the syringe may not escape from the main body 110 against a force applied in an axial direction (or rotating shaft direction of the supporting member 140), the minimum diameter of the self-threading thread 142a of the supporting member 140 may be smaller 0.1mm or more than the minimum outer diameter of the corresponding portion in the main body 110, to which the self-threading thread 142a will be coupled. That is, the self-threading thread 142a of the adapter is fabricated intentionally to be smaller than the main body of the syringe, for example, the body portion 111 of the syringe, on which an additional male screw is not formed, and thus, the self-threading thread 142a may definitely form the male screw on the surface of the main body 110 of the syringe.
In addition, the supporting member 140 has a hardness that is higher than that of the main body 110 since the supporting member 140 forms the male screw 113 on the surface of the main body 110. In more detail, the hardness of the adapter, that is, the supporting member 140, may be 120% or greater of that of the main body 110. That is, when it is assumed that measured values of the hardnesses of the supporting member 140 and the main body 110 by using a same hardness measuring method are h1 and h2, h1 may be greater than h2 X 1.2. As described above, when the hardness of the supporting member 140 is 120% or more of the hardness of the main body 110, the self-threading thread 142a may effectively form the male screw 113 on the surface of the main body 110 without being damaged when the supporting member 140 is inserted in the main body 110 of the syringe. However, the hardness of the supporting member 140 may be 300% or less of the hardness of the main body 110 for easily forming the supporting member 140.
The adapter for the syringe according to the present embodiment is coupled to the syringe as follows.
Referring to FIG. 4, the needle maintain member 130, the supporting member 140, and the main body 110 are coaxially arranged in a row, and after that, the needle maintain member 130, the supporting member 140, and the main body 110 are coupled to each other in a screw coupling method. In more detail, the needle maintain member 130 is rotated in a predetermined direction to be coupled to the fixing portion 141 of the supporting member 140, and then, the supporting member 140 is rotated in a direction opposite to the above predetermined direction so that the self-threading thread 142a of the supporting member 140 may form the male screw 113 on the body portion 111 of the main body 110 and the supporting member 140 is coupled to the main body 110.
As shown in FIG. 4, the needle maintain member 130, the supporting member 140, and the main body 110 are coaxially arranged in a row, and each of the components is coupled to each other in a screw coupling method. In more detail, the supporting member 140 is rotated in a direction so that the self-threading thread 142a of the supporting member is coupled to the main body 110 while forming the male screw 113 on the body portion 111 of the main body 110. After that, the needle maintain member 130 is rotated in a direction opposite to the rotating direction of the supporting member 140 to be coupled to the fixing portion 141 of the supporting member 140.
Here, the supporting member 140 may be rotated until an inner surface of the needle maintain member 130 is adhered to the surface of the injection portion 112, an d thus, the supporting member 140 may be firmly fixed in the main body 110 of the syringe.
The adapter for the syringe and the adapter assembly for the syringe according to the present embodiment have following effects.
The adapter for the syringe according to the present embodiment may be modified as follows.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the self-threading thread 142a is disposed to correspond to the body portion 111; however, the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, the self-threading thread 142a may be disposed on a location corresponding to the injection portion 112 of the main body 110.
Here, as shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, the supporting member 140 may be disposed at a side of the injection portion 112, and the self-threading thread 142a of the supporting member 140 may be fixedly coupled to the injection portion 112 while forming the male screw 113 on the surface of the injection portion 112. On the other hand, the needle maintain member 130 may be supported by the supporting member 140 in a state of being inserted in the injection portion 112. In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the diameters of the screw of the supporting member and of the fixing portion are different from each other; however, the present invention is not limited thereto, for example, the diameters of the screw of the supporting member and of the fixing portion may be the same as each other.
In addition, as shown in FIGS. 8 and 9, according to the syringe of the present embodiment, various kinds of needles, for example, the needle 150, may be inserted in the syringe. That is, in FIGS. 4 through 7, the needle maintain member 130, in which the needle 150 is fixed in advance, is coupled to the supporting member 140 and the injection portion 112; however, the present invention is not limited thereto. The needle 150 may be detachably coupled to the needle maintain member 130.
In more detail, as shown in FIG. 8, the needle maintain member 130 includes an intermediate member 133, an air-tight maintain member 134, a collet member 135, and a compressing member 136. In addition, the supporting member 140 is formed as a cylinder including the fixing portion 141 and the screw portion 142. The fixing portion 141 has the second screw thread 141a on an inner circumferential surface thereof, and the screw portion 142 extends from the fixing portion 141 in a direction and has the self-threading thread 142a therein. In addition, a step is disposed between the screw portion 142 and the fixing portion 141, and in more detail, a first step 141b that is connected to the second screw thread 141a and a second step 141c disposed at a side of the first step 141b are formed. In addition, the self-threading thread 142a is connected to the second step 141c. An end portion of the compressing member 136 may contact the first step 141b, and an end portion of the intermediate member 133 may contact the second step 141c.
The intermediate member 133 is formed as a cylinder that is inserted into the fixing portion 141, and has an inner surface formed to correspond the injection portion 112 to contact the outer surface of the injection portion 112. In addition, a communicating hole 133a is formed in a center portion of the intermediate member 133.
The air-tight maintain member 134, through which the needle 150 penetrates, is disposed between the intermediate member and the collet member 135, and maintains the air-tightness between the intermediate member 133 and the collet member 135. The air-tight maintain member 134 may be formed of an elastic material, for example, silicon.
The collet member 135 includes a cylindrical portion having an inner diameter greater than that of the needle 150 at a side thereof so as to receive the needle 150 therein, and a plurality of slits are formed on the side toward the other side. In addition, a plurality of bar members 135b are separated from each other by the slits so that end portions of the plural bar members 135b may compress the needle 150.
A mounting portion 135a contacting the air-tight maintain member 134 is formed at the opposite side to the cylindrical portion receiving the needle 150, and a diameter of the mounting portion 135a is greater than that of the cylindrical portion.
The compressing member 136 includes a space for receiving the collet member 135 therein. In addition, an inclined surface 136a is formed in the compressing member 136 for reducing intervals between the slits of the collet member 135 so as to compress the needle 150 inserted in the collet member 135. A third screw thread 136b that may be coupled to the second screw thread 141a of the fixing portion 141 is formed on an outer circumferential surface of the compressing member 136.
The syringe of FIG. 8 is coupled in following ways. The needle 150, the compressing member 136, the collet member 135, the air-tight maintain member 134, the intermediate member 133, the supporting member 140, and the main body 110 of the syringe are arranged sequentially, and are coupled to each other. In more detail, the collet member 135 is inserted in the compressing member 136 first, and then, the air-tight maintain member 134, the intermediate member 133, and the supporting member 140 are coupled to each other in the stated order. At this time, the third screw thread 136b of the compressing member 136 and the second screw thread 141a of the supporting member 140 are coupled to each other, and the assembling of the adapter is finished. After that, when the adapter for the syringe is rotated in a direction, the self-threading thread 142a is fixedly installed in the injection portion 112 while forming the male screw 113 on the surface of the injection portion 112.
FIG. 9 shows the assembled state of the syringe. According to the syringe of FIG. 9, needles of various sizes may be coupled to the syringe due to the slits formed in the collet member 135. In addition, since the air-tightness is maintained by the air-tight maintain member 134, the leakage of solution stored in the main body 110 of the syringe to outside may be prevented.
In addition, the adapter for the syringe according to the embodiments of the present invention may be modified as the examples shown in FIGS. 10 through 12. That is, according to FIG. 10, the supporting member 140 may include a fixing body 160 that is formed of a material having a hardness higher than that of the main body 110 of the syringe and fixedly coupled to the surface of the main body 110, the fixing portion 141, to which the needle maintain member 130 is detachably coupled, at a side thereof, and a receiving portion 143 for receiving the fixing body 160 that is fixed on the surface of the main body 110 at the other side thereof.
Here, the fixing body 160 received in the receiving portion 143 may be a screw. That is, the screw is mounted on the receiving portion 143 by penetrating through the supporting member 140 and then coupled to the surface of the main body 110, and accordingly, the supporting member 140 may be firmly fixed on the main body 110 of the syringe. Here, the adapter may be coupled to the supporting member 140 by using a screw. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the adapter may be detachably coupled to the supporting member 140 by using various methods.
In addition, as shown in FIG. 11, a pin may be used as the fixing body 160. The pin may be inserted into the main body of the syringe after penetrating through the supporting member 140, and thus, the main body of the syringe and the supporting member 140 may be firmly coupled to each other. Otherwise, as shown in FIG. 12, a clip may be used as the fixing body 160 so that the fixing body 160 may be coupled to the main body of the syringe.
The syringe of the present embodiment may be fabricated as follows.
A method of fabricating the syringe includes: disposing a main body of the syringe including a cylindrical body portion and a tapered injection portion extending from the body portion with a diameter that is less than a diameter of the body portion; disposing a supporting member comprising a screw portion including a self-threading thread that may form a male screw on a surface of the main body of the syringe while rotating to be inserted into the main body of the syringe coaxially with the main body, wherein the screw portion is formed of a material having a hardness higher than a hardness of the main body of the syringe, the screw portion is formed as a cylinder, in which the self-threading thread is formed on an inner circumferential surface, and a minimum diameter of the self-threading thread is less than a minimum outer diameter of the main body, on which the male screw is formed, so that the screw portion may not be escaped from the main body in an axial direction of the syringe; and rotating the supporting member to be inserted into the main body of the syringe, wherein the self-threading thread of the screw portion is completely attached to the main body of the syringe while forming the male screw on a surface of the main body of the syringe so that the supporting member may not be escaped from the main body of the syringe against an external force in the axial direction of the syringe.
According to the adapter for the syringe of the present invention, the adapter forms the male screw on the surface of the main body of the syringe while rotating, and accordingly, the adapter may be fixedly coupled to the main body of the syringe. Therefore, the adapter may not be escaped from the syringe even when an external force in the axial direction is applied to the adapter.
In addition, according to the adapter of the present invention, the main body of the universal syringe may be used without changing the design or the structure of the syringe, and thus, the fabrication costs of the adapter and the syringe may be reduced.
While the present invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to exemplary embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the following claims.
