Abstract

A method of operating equipment for use in connection with a waste treatment facility, the method comprising: (a) delivering aerated sludge to a separator via a plurality of inlet passages, at least a portion of the aerated sludge entering the separator via the plurality of inlet passages rises through the aerated sludge within the separator to mix the aerated sludge; (b) removing a portion of solid constituents from the separator, wherein the portion of the solid constituents is taken directly from the aerated sludge entering the separator via the plurality of inlet passages; and, (c) delivering the portion of solid constituents removed from the separator to an anoxic compartment.
