Abstract

A gripping device (1 ) for a tubular element (6), and a pipe handling system comprising at least one gripping device, wherein the gripping device (1) comprises: - at least two with respect to each other oppositely arranged gripping arms (2a, 2b), the gripping arms (2a, 2b) together forming an opening (D) of a given diameter; - the gripping arms (2a, 2b) are configured for synchronous motion about a centre axis (A) running through the opening (D), wherein each of the gripping arms (2a, 2b) is configured with at least one roller (10a, 10b), which at least one roller (10a, 10b) has an axis of rotation (R) that forms an acute angle a relative to the centre axis (A) of the opening (D).
