Milan, 1869. unbound. Town plan. Uncolored engraving. Image measures 23 1/2" x 33 1/4" Fantastic large city plan of Rome, with incredible detail. Streets, buildings, parks, plazas, ruins, monuments, and waterways are all featured. A table in the left lists parishes and non-parish churches; another index in the lower right indicates other points of interest including museums, theaters, palaces, religious institutions, etc. In very good condition. Minor wear to original fold lines at edges, otherwise clean and bright. Francesco Valllardi (1809-1895) was an mapmaker from a Milanese family of publishers, booksellers, and printers. His grandfather, also named Francesco, founded the publishing house in the 18th century, and was succeeded by his songs Giuseppe and Pietro who operated under the imprint Fratelli Vallardi. Francesco was one of Pietro's sons, and worked under his own imprint - as did his brother Antonio. (Inventory #: 315348)
