Karlie Kloss Keeps it Simple this Fall Season in a Burberry Trench Coat

This article is more than 7 years old.

A trench, for all intense and purposes, is meant to be the most utilitarian of coats. Originally made out of tightly woven gabardine, its resistance to water and wear and tear made it the choice topper for trench warfare—hence the name. More recently, it has been the preferred coat for the in-between seasons, as its lightness and flattering cut is ideal for many occasions. Whether it is with a pair of jeans and sneakers or over a great cocktail dress, you can’t go wrong with this fall essential. And if you need proof of the former, take a look at supermodel Karlie Kloss, who walked the streets of New York yesterday in a trench from Burberry.

Indeed, the brand is synonymous with this wardrobe stable. Burberry manufactured these coats for officers during the First World War, and has created glamorous versions for their catwalks ever since.  That said, it is safe to say that the trench is not going anyway anytime soon.  And though the current state of fashion has designers creating ostentatious pieces with loud prints and myriad textures (see: the runways of Gucci, Prada, Michael Kors, and Burberry, too), there is something to be said about keeping it simple with the iconic khaki-colored style, as Kloss has demonstrated.
