Master Plan for Sustainable Coastal Management. Catalan River Basin District
Prointec has drafted a master plan for sustainable management of Spanish coasts for the Catalan River Basin District. The Ministry of Environment created an 'Integrated Management' system for the work, which brings together the environment, agents, actions, procedures, regulations and consequences. Under this concept, the Plan envisages the coast as a complex system in which both geomorphology-related natural agents and processes and human actions -using the coast as an economic resource- come into play.
Prointec's work spanned four phases: characterisation and diagnosis of the coastal environment; laying down priorities and preparing proposals and alternative actions; assessing proposals; and drafting the final plan. All of the above was based on a physical, urban planning, environmental and socioeconomic analysis.
