Peach Margarita Ingredients

With a well-stocked home bar and some fresh peaches, this margarita recipe is easy to pull together. Here's what you'll need:

  • Fresh peaches: Pitted and coarsely chopped fresh peaches are the primary ingredient of a peach margarita recipe. It's best to use fresh peaches if at all possible, as they will have the best texture and taste, but if using frozen peaches, throw them in the fridge to defrost first so as to not end up with too watery a texture.
  • Tequila: Use your favorite; whatever you have on hand is fine. But don't feel like you need to invest in the pricey stuff, as this will be blended and not enjoyed as shots.
  • Orange liqueur (such as triple sec): This is a great addition for a fruity, sweet layer of flavor we look for in a margarita. But if you are not a triple sec fan, something like Peach Schnapps can be a good modification here as well, and also help to develop that peach flavor.
  • Agave nectar or honey: Agave works as a sweetener. The texture is honey-like, though agave is a bit thinner and lighter to use in recipes. However, the taste comparison of honey and agave is pretty close, so either works well in this recipe.
  • Fresh lime juice: While the bottled stuff is fine in a pinch, the fresh stuff is going to give a much more authentic lime flavor in this margarita.
  • Ice cubes: This frozen margarita will be its best when well chilled so that it stays frozen longer. Throwing ice in the blender will also be much like putting a bunch of ice cubes in a cocktail shaker and shaking—but will make sure that chill is even better circulated.
  • Chili-lime seasoning (such as Tajín): This is for rimming the glass and bringing out the sweetness of the fruit. However, a simple kosher salt rim is great too and totally traditional if easier to come by.

Can you use canned peaches for a peach margarita?

Ideally, you'd use fresh. But canned peaches are an option if fresh peaches are not in season. Just be aware these tend to be sweeter, especially if you don't drain the syrup. If using canned peaches, you may want to skip the agave or honey portion of the recipe.

How To Prep Peaches

The peaches in this recipe will need to be peeled, pitted, and chopped coarsely so as to be evenly blended once thrown in the blender.

The easiest way to remove a pit from a peach is similar to that of an avocado. Slice in half and rotate the knife in the fleshy area around the pit in the middle. It should glide right out.

How To Make Peach Margaritas

Making a margarita is as simple as making a smoothie or juice, but a whole lot more fun.

  • Step 1. Make peach puree: Toss the peaches in a blender and puree. This should take around 30 seconds, maybe a minute if your blender is a lower-power option.
  • Step 2. Add liquor: After the peaches reach the consistency you want, add the rest of the ingredients—that'll be all the booze! Generally, the rule of thumb with cocktails is to start with the least expensive ingredients and then move up to the more expensive, so that if you make a mistake, you don't waste good stuff. So, you may want to start with the lime juice and agave, and then pour in the tequila and orange liqueur. But any order works if you are on top of your measurements! Then, just process to combine, and add a few ice cubes as a final touch.
  • Step 3. Prepare glasses: If you want that perfect rim, finish by placing lime juice on a small rimmed plate and dipping the glass rim in the lime juice and then Tajín. But any chili-lime seasoning or even a simple salt is great. too!

How To Serve Peach Margaritas

This peach margarita is so delicious, there's not a wrong way to serve it. But we'll go with a classic: Pour into a chilled margarita glass that has been rimmed with salt and garnish with lime—or, if you want to have extra fun—a slice of perfectly ripe peach!

Make-Ahead Margaritas

Parties are hard work, and sometimes the last thing you want to do is to be standing by the bar or in the kitchen the whole time mixing drinks. A great timesaver is to make a batch of cocktails ahead of time so you can be a part of the party instead of busy the whole time.

To make these delicious peach margaritas ahead of time, just follow the recipe for as many as you want to make and transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Then, just toss in the freezer until you are ready to serve. Freshen up the mix by tossing in the blender 30 seconds to loosen enough to pour.
