Meet Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the governor of the Russian republic of Kalmykia, Europe’s chess and Buddhism capital. This fellow went on TV to discuss his recent alien abduction. It is no crazier than any one (1) thing Alaska’s former governor has said publicly in the past year. According to ABC News, “Ilyumzhinov said the aliens didn’t make themselves known to the rest of the world because they weren’t ready, adding that he communicated with them telepathically because there wasn’t enough oxygen.” Well, right.

Anyway, the Russian government is taking this all very seriously. One parliamentarian, Andrei Lebedev, has requested that President Dmitry Medvedev question Ilyumzhinov about his story. Something doesn’t quite check out, see. “Lebedev is especially interested in what Ilyumzhinov may have told the aliens about his job and whether the abduction has affected the governor’s ability to perform the duties of office.” “Duties of office” for a Russian elected official: apparently now including conducting very serious alien abduction follow-up investigations.
