The History of Edoran

The Ivory Gardens

At the dawn of existence, Egnir, an omnipotent celestial entity, traversed the endless cosmos, alone. Within the vastness of the Astral Plane, fueled by a singular burst of divine insight, Egnir sought out a drifting mass of stone amidst the ethereal expanse, and with a cascade of otherworldly energies, imbued it with the essence of magic.   Thus, The Ivory Gardens emerged, a realm of perpetual radiance. Adorned with marble structures and verdant greenery, bathed in the golden glow of purity. Ascending the throne of creation, Egnir discerned its void, a silent emptiness. As the sovereign of this reality, Egnir’s first act was to breathe life into the barren canvas, birthing the first entities, The Empyrean.   He created seven Empyrean:
  • Azarius, Archangel of Valor and God of War
  • Dardariel, Archangel of Justice and God of Order
  • Briathus, Archangel of Fate and God of Lore
  • Marakel, Archangel of Wisdom and God of Knowledge
  • Theliel, Archangel of Mercy and God of Life
  • Adonael, Archangel of Light and God of the Sun/Light
  • Rhamiel, Archangel of Artisty and God of the Forge
Consumed by an insatiable desire for life's creation, Egnir swiftly succumbed to an obsession. Commencing with the inception of the Lesser Empyrean, swarms of these less potent entities were woven into the very fabric of The Ivory Gardens, each pledged in servitude to one of the seven Empyreans.

Age of Stone

Unable to quell the unyielding thirst for life, Egnir ventured once more into the Astral Plane, pulling forth a colossal mass of rock. It was here that Egnir meticulously chiseled the cosmic form of Edoran into existence.   In the ancient days, Egnir fashioned the Giants from stone and the Dragon from metal upon the continent of Iyara. As time unfolded, Egnir's experimentation with dragons led to their evolution, acquiring scales and flesh. Witnessing the Dragons' intricacies, the Giants, consumed by jealousy, launched a war against them. The Giants, with their sheer numbers and adept use of weaponry, quickly gained the upper hand.   In response to the escalating conflict, the Dragons, recognizing the peril, sought refuge on the larger continent of Theldoria, their wings carrying them safely over the seas. Meanwhile, Egnir continued his creative pursuits on Theldoria, sculpting mortal races under the guidance of the Dragons. However, shadows cast by The Ivory Gardens birthed beings of darkness. Thalapertius, the God of Destruction, emerged as a dark reflection of Egnir, accompanied by offspring representing the darker aspects of the Empyrean.
  • Voraxioz, Archdevil of Gluttony
  • Altoroz, Archdevil of Pride
  • Avarnoz, Archdevil of Greed
  • Morthoz, Archdevil of Wrath
  • Torpidae, Archdemon of Sloth
  • Invidrae, Archdemon of Envy
  • Luxurae, Archdemon of Lust
These Demons and Devils deftly manipulated the Dragons into conflicts and wars, steadily weakening their position. Seizing this vulnerability, the Giants initiated an invasion of Theldoria from Iyara. This protracted war endured for thousands of years, with mortal races and Dragons battling until they ultimately destroyed a Giant's machine at the mountain of Caladhon. The resulting magical explosion fractured the once-unified continent of Theldoria into its current form.   As the last remnants of the Giants faced defeat, they were driven underground, forced to inhabit the dark recesses known as the Underdark. Over the course of thousands of years spent in the depths, a gradual transformation occurred, reducing their once-imposing stature. These diminished beings, initially scorned with the derogatory term "Dwarf" as a reflection of their descent from a position of power, embraced their new identity.   In a surprising turn of events, the Dwarves redefined their name, viewing it not as an insult but as a badge of honor. Rooted in the earth, they discovered renewed strength, channeling their resilience into the forging of mighty weapons, sturdy armor, and the construction of magnificent underground cities. The Dwarves, once diminished, emerged as a formidable force, demonstrating that strength and honor could be found in the very depths from which they rose.

Fall of Aurum

The magical explosion served as a beacon to entities presiding over distinct planes of existence. The Elemental Plains, home to the Elemental Lords, the Umbragloam, domain of the Raven Queen, the Cthyllian Void, realm of the Cosmic Horror Xylogotha, and others, opened rifts into the world, disseminating their influence and arcane energies. The most audacious of these realms was Thalapertius' creation, Apocritae. Thalapertius perpetually clashed with Egnir, dispatching its Generals, Altoroz, Archdevil of Pride, and Morthoz, Archdevil of Wrath, through a portal in the Pyrothos Caldera.   These Generals traversed the continent, corrupting swamplands into the now-infamous Sablemire Marsh. Their primary target was the world tree, Aurum. The ensuing clash between the army of Devils and Demons and the mortal races—predominantly Men, Elves, and Fey—supported by the Dragons, teetered on the brink of disaster.   As defeat loomed, Theliel, Archangel of Mercy, intervened and bestowed the world with the Wild Gods. Unified, mortals, Dragons, and Wild Gods routed the forces of Apocritae, driving them back into the depths of hell. Tragically, during this intense conflict, a corrupted seed from Invidrae, Archdemon of Envy, took root within Aurum's sacred roots. This insidious corruption caused the once-majestic tree to burn from within, collapsing upon itself. The Glade, once vibrant, now perpetually draped in autumn hues, earned the melancholic moniker Aurumfall Glade. In a bid to mitigate the damage, the Fey, Aurothiax the Golden Dragon, and Sylvanor, Wild God of the Forest, chose to remain in the Glade, designating it as their permanent home.

Age of Scales

The intricate tapestry of history unfolded into an era known as the Age of Scales, where Dragons assumed a pivotal role in guiding the Mortal Races. However, as time passed, the insidious influence of the Demons and Devils on the Chromatic Dragons began to manifest. Corrupted by dark forces, the once-wise and benevolent Chromatics gradually succumbed to a malevolent nature that incited strife and resentment among the Mortal Races.   The Mortals, once allies under the guidance of Dragons, found themselves increasingly at odds with the very beings they had revered. The Chromatic Dragons, manipulated by the lingering demonic taint, became tyrannical and oppressive, exploiting their power over Mortal affairs. This oppression reached a breaking point, triggering widespread anger and discontent among the Mortal Races.   Amidst this brewing tension, a rift emerged between the Chromatic and Metallic Dragons. The Metallic Dragons, untouched by the demonic influence, recognized the danger posed by their corrupted kin. Led by the noble Metallic Dragons, the Mortals united in a rebellion against the oppressive Chromatics, sparking a civil war that would redefine the balance of power.   In a decisive battle, the Mortals, guided by the Metallic Dragons, succeeded in overcoming the corrupted Chromatic Dragons. Faced with defeat, the banishment of the once-mighty Chromatics became the only recourse. The victorious alliance, having prevailed over the dark forces that had manipulated the dragons, cast the corrupted Chromatics into the untamed wilds.   The aftermath marked the transition from The Age of Scales to The Age of Mortals, a pivotal era where the banishment of Chromatic Dragons reshaped the destiny of the world. In the wake of this transformative event, the last remaining Metallic Dragons faced a momentous decision regarding their own destinies.   Golden Dragon Aurothiax, with the turmoil finally subsided, chose to reclaim the Aurumfall Glade as his sanctuary once more. Amidst the perpetual autumn of the Aurumfall Glade, Aurothiax sought solace and a return to the harmony that had been disrupted by the conflicts of the past.   Bronze Dragon Gildroniax, wearied by the ceaseless conflicts that had defined the preceding millennia, sought refuge in the solitude of the rocky coasts of Galestrand. There, amidst the crashing waves and rugged landscapes, Gildroniax found a sanctuary away from the tumultuous history that had unfolded.   Copper Dragon Verdiax soared to the tranquil skies of the Duskwyn Dales, where the mountains cradled ancient secrets. In the serenity of the mountainous heights, Verdiax succumbed to a deep slumber, seeking respite from the burdens of the world and the echoes of past conflicts.   Silver Dragon Sarithiax, the last of the Metallic Dragons, took on a new responsibility. Turning to guide the remaining Draconic Mortals who still looked to a Dragon as their leader, including Dragonborn, Kobolds, Lizardfolk, Troglodytes, and Sorcerers of Draconic Bloodlines, Sarithiax embarked on a journey of leadership and mentorship.   Together, this diverse group of Draconic Mortals set out to construct the Wyrmocracy of Aurynthorn, a society that still endures to this day. Under the guidance of Sarithiax, they forged a realm where the principles of cooperation and unity prevailed. The Wyrmocracy of Aurynthorn became a testament to the enduring legacy of Dragons and their influence on Mortals, marking the beginning of The Age of Mortals, an age defined by collaboration, rebuilding, and the pursuit of a harmonious future.
