With more glass being used in today’s vehicles, the amount of solar<br />

energy getting inside has increased. Lowering the interior temperature<br />

reduces the need for air-conditioning and the strain on the engine. Less<br />

fuel means less pollution. Thus making our environment much healthier.<br />

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, vehicles are responsible for<br />

over half (51%) of the carbon dioxide emmissions released yearly.<br />

The California Air Resource Board (CARB) has adopted a regulation that<br />

will require new cars sold in California, starting in <strong>20</strong>12, to have windows<br />

that reflect or absorb heat producing rays from the sun. All new vehicle<br />

windshields must reflect at least 30% of the total solar spectrum.<br />

<strong>St</strong>arting in <strong>20</strong>13 all side glass and back glass can not transmit more then<br />

55% total solar transmittance.<br />

Knowing the various types of windshields and how they can make a<br />

difference to you and the economy, can generate a more comfortable<br />

drive and a more fuel efficient vehicle. Additionally, this helps contribute<br />

to a healthier environment for all.<br />

<strong>Saint</strong>-<strong>Gobain</strong> Sekurit has taken the issue of global warming seriously<br />

and is striving to develop new and more efficient ways to lower the<br />

carbon footprint of vehicles by manufacturing various solar defeating<br />

glasses: Anti-Heat, Dark Tint and Electrochromic Glass. This month<br />

17 new parts have been added to our inventory. Sixteen of the new parts<br />

are Anti-Heat: Solar Absorbing and Solar Reflecting.<br />

BMW 7S ‘08<br />

Anti-Heat Glass provides total solar protection across the whole interior<br />

of the car whether you’re driving, or the car is parked. With lowering the<br />

interior temperature reduces the need for air-conditioning saving money<br />

on fuel. Anti-heat glass keeps the interior cooler protecting the<br />

upholstery from the harmful rays that cause fading and the loss of<br />

durability to the interior.<br />

* Heat Reflective Glass uses an invisible silver oxide coating to direct<br />

solar energy away from the vehicle, dramatically reducing the heat buildup.<br />

When reducing the heat build up, we decrease the need for a/c thus<br />

reducing the strain on the engine.<br />

* Dark Tinted Glass is designed to absorb solar energy before it enters<br />

the vehicle keeping the interior cool. Dark tint adds a layer of privacy.<br />

* Electrochromic Glass allows the driver to take total control of the tint<br />

that surrounds them. A simple turn to the dial allows changes to the<br />

amount of light entering the vehicle anywhere from 4%-40%. Solar<br />

energy transmission can be reduced from 2% to <strong>20</strong>%. Electrochromic<br />

glass filters out the harmful UV rays.<br />

This month 17 new parts have been added to our inventory. Twelve of<br />

the new parts are Anti-Heat: Solar Absorbing and Solar Reflecting. A full<br />
