Port Graham and Nanwalek Subsistence Fishery Harvest Monitoring

Synopsis:The subsistence harvest of sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka, pink salmon O. gorbuscha, and coho salmon O. kisutch in the Port Graham, Koyuktolik, Port Chatham, and Windy Bay subdistricts is essential to the residents of Port Graham and Nanwalek. This project will 1) obtain updated subsistence salmon harvest information through household surveys, 2) document harvest recording at fishing locations, and 3) make recommendations for a revised harvest monitoring program. The results will improve the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s (ADF&G’s) ability to manage the fluctuating salmon runs critical to this subsistence fishery.
