1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Beetley St Mary Magdalene |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Beetley lies in central Norfolk about 3
miles north of the market town of East Dereham. Beetley is sited on the
northern slopes of a tributary of the Rover Wensum and stretches along
the B1146 road which connects East Dereham with Fakenham. There are two
parts to Beetley, the modern settlement which lies as described and Old
Beetley to the north about a half mile where the Hall and church are sited
and which was the site of the original mediaeval village. The modern settlement
grew up where it was owing to the crossing of the river and its road links
whereas there are just minor lanes around church and hall. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of the transcript and extends to completion in 1889. The habit of starting each new year on a fresh page, however, means that there is many empty entries. This register is filmed on Microfiche 4 & 5 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. These fiche are rather elderly and suffer from the poor image quality often achieved at that time. Fortunately images are available for this parish on Familysearch and these were used to clarify the less obvious entries making for a straightforward transcript to prepare. Hopefully few errors will have crept in to its production. |
