Zebrak (means Beggar) Castle was founded as the first of two donjon type castles in the second half of 13th century by a member of powerfull clan of Buzicis, later Lords Zajics of Waldeck alongside the tradeway Prague-Plzen-Nurnberg, connecting Bohemia with Bavaria, as the guard fortress. In the 1342 it passed on the King´s John of Luxembourg property. His son, Emperor Charles IV. often reposed and sleeped here on his journeys across the empire.
During the Hussite Wars the castle remained undamaged, but later, till the beginning of the 16th century the interst about it declined and shifted away to the most comfortable new Emperor´s Wenceslaus IV. castle Tocnik in close nearby and fall into disrepair.
