The Village of Lumby has been chosen as the site of the International Norton Owner's Association 2010 Rally.  The rally is hosted by the Okanagan Chapter of the Westcoast British Motorcycle Owner's Club.

Why Lumby?  Well, it's a small village just off the main Okanagan valley.  Two things happen in the Okanagan in the summer; it gets busy and it gets HOT.  The side valleys offer relief from the heat and the crowds, but are close enough (14 miles) for easy access.  By going to Lumby, we have been able to rent the entire campground and Village Recreation Complex for our event.

The small town atmosphere is friendly and super cooperative with the rally - we'll be a major event for the summer. We are able to capture the successful relationship that INOA and BMOC have established in this community with the past 2003 INOA and the 2004 BMOC Positive Earth Rally's.

The other reasons for Lumby are all the great motorcycle roads in the area.  The Okanagan valley is a glacial landscape, with flat valley bottoms surrounded by hills, all of them with great twisty roads to explore.   This is the northern end of the valley between the Coast and Rocky Mountains that begins in California with the Mojave Desert.  Now, that would be a good ride.

Lumby, population 1750,  is centrally located in British Columbia, about 5 1/2 hours from Vancouver and Calgary, and about 6 1/2 hours from Seattle.  The village is on Highway 6, and is the Gateway to the Monashee range of the interior Selkirk Mountains.  The region abounds with back country recreation  opportunities from trail rides to hang gliding and in winter, snowmobiling, alpine and Nordic skiing, as well as back country ski touring.

The mainstay of the village economy is logging.  Although two mills have shut down in recent years, two large mills nearby are major employers.  There are two pubs, three motels, numerous restaurants and several bed and breakfast operations, all detailed on the accommodation page.

23 km (16 miles) west of Lumby is Vernon, the major centre in the north end of BC's Okanagan Valley.  One of Canada's only two fruit growing regions, the valley is a major tourist destination, long renowned for its hot dry summers and now becoming famous as Canada's premiere wine growing region.   Beaches and peaches are still a great reason for an extended stay at any of dozens of lakeside hotels, resorts and campgrounds.  Visit any of Vernon, Kelowna or Penticton's tourism web sites for more information, or try Okanagan Tourism for an overview, including a great phototour.
