Dispatch from a Ditch Outside Alvord, Iowa

This morning, I was feeling pensive, if not verbose, as I waited for my (unharmed) car to be lugged back onto the road. These are the words that came to mind.

THIS IS MY LIFE right now...

Sitting in a ditch, in a sea of white. Feet cold from getting in and out of the car. Fingers a bit chilly, but OK. I'm interviewing a researcher from Yale about work/life balance. She was late to the call because she was getting her kid on the schoolbus. I briefly had to put her on hold when the third friendly Iowa farmer-type stopped by to make sure I was OK. Meanwhile, a queue of kids is forming outside my classroom door some 20 miles away. And my lesson plans -- the good ones I prepped for the observation -- will hold for another day.
