Take an innocent drive through the small mountain town and you might be caught by surprise when you see the infamous Coney Island Boardwalk Hotdog Stand, which looks like, you guessed it, a giant hot dog, stuck right in the middle of some beautiful mountain scenery.

People traveling through Park County often stop by to visit this historic building, but up until very recently it was closed and had been shut down during most of the pandemic. However this summer they were able to open up with a food truck first and then reopened the iconic hot dog stand along with a fresh coat of paint at the end of August 2022.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]It’s come quite a long way since its opening on West Colfax Avenue in 1966. The original owner Marcus Shannon originally wanted to start a chain featuring this patented design but unfortunately was closed in 1969. After being moved to Aspen Park in Conifer in 1970 it stayed until 2006 until it was ultimately moved to make room for a bank. Since then its present location has been in Bailey. The hot dog itself measures 42 feet long and weighs a total of 18 tons. Coney Island is such a prominent landmark in the area and was recently featured in an episode of South Park, in which Cartman is forced to live in the hot dog stand! Check it out for yourself!

Coming to the Coney Island Boardwalk in itself, is an experience. As you drive into Bailey you’ll already be surrounded by some of Colorado’s most stunning scenery, and luckily the boardwalk is located next to the flowing Roark Creek along the highway. Stop in next door at the Fun and Funky Art Gallery to find some of the best items from local artisans and shops all here in this convenient location! The inside of Coney Island doesn’t have much room for dining, so if you’re lucky you can take a seat inside and get the feel of an old-fashioned diner as you enjoy your meal. If not they have benches located outside by the river for your enjoyment. [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The menu of course is going to have a variety of hot dogs with multiple combinations, one of those being the Sasquatch Dog, which is a bacon-wrapped ¼ beef dog topped with chili, onions, coleslaw and mustard! They also have chips, soda, popcorn, real fruit smoothies and don’t forget to try a waffle cone s’more!

If you’re ever traveling through Park County, be sure to stop in and get your hot dog in this historic location! Don’t forget to get your picture by the giant hot dog! When will you get that chance again?! Extra points if you bring a Cartman plushie for your selfie. When you’re in Morrison, Colorado, you can catch a glimpse of the ⅙ replica they have of the hot dog building at Tiny Town![/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Address: 10 Old Stagecoach Rd Ste 973, Bailey, CO 80421.
