The first ever People's Choice Country Awards took place on September 28, 2023 at the Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, with the genre's brightest array of stars descending on the iconic venue to battle it out for a plethora of coveted accolades.

The People's Choice Country Awards set itself apart from its competitors with a few exciting, left-field categories, such as ‘The Social Country Star of 2023’, which was awarded to Blake Shelton, and ‘The Crossover Song of 2023’, which went to Chris Stapleton and P!nk for their song 'Just Say I'm Sorry'.

The debut installment was hosted by Little Big Town, who performed a sizzling version of their hit single, 'Boondocks'. Additional blistering performances came from Kane Brown, HARDY, Dan + Shay, Kelsea Ballerini, Carly Pearce, Jelly Roll and more.

Elsewhere in the evening, Toby Keith was honored with the 2023 Country Icon award, presented by Shelton. Later on, Brothers Osborne presented Wynonna Judd with the 2023 Country Champion award for her long and fruitful career despite her many hardships. Both icons also treated fans to performances during the two-hour broadcast.

Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll were the big winners at the inaugural show.

Although not in attendance, Wallen was crowned The People's Artist of 2023, as well as picking up the coveted accolade for The Concert Tour of 2023 in recognition of his immensely popular One Night At A Time run of shows, which will continue in 2024. Completing the ‘Thinkin’ Bout Me’ songsmith's trio of awards was The Album of 2023 accolade, which he received for his record-breaking One Thing At A Time project.

Wilson walked away from the Opry with the well-deserved gong for The Female Artist of 2023, as well as sharing The Collaboration Song of 2023 with Jelly Roll for their soul-searching duet, ‘Save Me’, and winning The Music Video of 2023 for ‘wait in the truck’ with HARDY.

Along with The Collaboration Song of 2023, Jelly Roll also won The New Artist of 2023, The Male Artist of 2023 and The Song of 2023 for his second Country Radio No. 1, ‘NEED A FAVOR’.
