Inside the port, a terminal of tricycle can be seen. These tricycles can be hired if you opted to do island tour, which is basically what majority of tourist does :). Siquijor has 6 municipalities, namely Siquijor, San Juan, Lazi, Maria, Enrique Villanueva and Larena. I chose to stay at the town of Siquijor for easy access to the port when I get back to Dumaguete City. Just right outside the port, visitors are then welcomed by the "Welcome to Siquijor" stalled at the front garden of St. Frances of Assisi church, one of the oldest churches in the Island. I hired a tricycle going to Villa Marmarine Restaurant and Beach Resort, where I stayed for 2 days. The place is owned by a Japanese family, very homey and the staff are friendly. Villa Marmarine Restaurant and Beach Resort
My stay was prearranged already, they offered this cute "bahay-kubo" they call it Shigi with queen size bed, fan room, Cable TV, Ref and bathroom with Hot&Cold shower. I never expected such accommodation for a cheaper price ( they gave me a discount because it wasn't the peak season yet.)
After I settled and ate my lunch at the resort, I went back to St. Francis of Assisi church to take some photos. I stayed within the area til sunset then head back to the resort to recharge for a whole day island tour the next day. My guide, who owned the tricycle I rented for the island tour was already waiting for me outside the next day, Kuya Dennis was very prompt and greeted me with a big smile on his face.
Our tour started from Siquijor town proper and visited the following:
Town of Siquijor
1. St. Francis of Assisi Church
Town of San Juan
1. Coral Cay Resort
- According to Kuya Dennis, this is one of the most beautiful white sand beach in the island. But because it rained prior to my visit, the seashore was full of dead seaweeds and coconut leaves.
2. Calipay's Spring Park
- It's a public spring, the place is jam-packed during summer season. Few small cottages and picnic tables around the pool. The spring is just located along the highway so it is not hard to find. Town of Lazi
I would say "Lazy" town. Lazy in a sense that the place is so quite (based on my experience), it seems that time move so slow in this town.
Old houses were still around, those wide windows with sliding doors made from capiz shells. I think this is the best town for chill moments.
1. Old Balete Tree
- A 400 year old tree located right beside the national highway which makes it easier to find.
You'll never find the place eerie instead relaxing. Cold temperature welcome each visitors, good place for resting after the long travel from San Juan They collect donations of any amount for maintenance. I stayed for about 30 mins for some fish foot spa.
2. Lazi Convent.
A picture-perfect place. The street is shaded by these huge Acacia tree. To the left is the convent, a Bahay na Bato architecture. - My personal favorite place in Siquijor. If by any chance I will visit Siquijor again, I will stay at Lazi.
3. San Isidro Labrador Church
- Also known as Lazi Church, located just across the Convent.
4. Cambugahay Falls
- A cascading-tiered falls.
It offers a bluish green water basin, very pleasing to the eye. A postcard-worthy place. If the locals could add plants that bloom with flowers in different colors, damn! this place will surely be a heaven for tourists. Town of Maria
1. Sta. Maria Church
2. Salagdoong Beach
Town of Enrique Villanueva 1. Cang-isok House
2. Pan Bisaya
3. Mangrove Forest
4. Tulapos Mangrove Forest
4. Enrique Villanueva National Highway Town of Larena
1. Guiwanon Spring Park Resort
