UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES OF VILLA CLARA, CUBA
The University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara is located in the Island’s central region. Its central facilities are in the town of Santa Clara, the capital of Villa Clara province, founded in 1689.
This Medical University comprises 41 Teaching Units, including 8 University Hospitals and 33 Teaching Polyclinics. All these facilities, together with an extensive network of Health Care Centres assure the successful execution of the training programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate human resources.
The teaching of medicine at Villa Clara dates back to 1966. Since then, it has produced over 10,000 medical sciences graduates, including more than 7,000 doctors, more than 850 Stomatologists and more than 2,400 Graduate Nurses, of which some 500 were foreign students from over 45 countries. Postgraduate training, available in 50 specialities, has been successfully completed by over 4,780 students.
The faculty is made up by 1,267 teaching staff, including 34 Professors, 107 Auxiliary Lecturers, 435 Assistants and 691 Instructors.
The facilities are equipped with specialised lecture theatres and premises in which the training and research programmes are carried out.
The university has a broad ongoing programme of scientific research on a number of lines including health services and systems, maternal & child health, human resource training, experimental toxicology and immuno-histochemistry, clinical and therapeutic trials on new drugs, genetic marker studies, immunogenetics, etc.
UCM-VC actively participates in domestic and international internship programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as professional training courses aimed at foreign graduates.
The university signed a Professional Collaboration and Training Agreement with Instituto Casan, effective since November 2006
The above agreement, has involved the active participation of the Faculty of Stomatology of this University in the teaching of practical training courses for undergraduate and postgraduate foreign students.
