SELLER INSIGHT The present owners, Zoe and David, decided to move from London into the countryside, and began their search for a home in a rural setting, with easy access to London for work. They were thrilled to discover 7 Cage Lane in Great Staughton village, as it ticked all their boxes. They fell in love with the charm of the picture book, thatched cottage on first viewing. Originally two, one up one down, cottages dating from the eighteenth century, the cottage had a welcoming ambience and simply needed cosmetic work, and a new thatch, to bring it up to date as a home of great comfort and character. Zoe explains that the cottage has a positive and happy vibe throughout. When you walk into the country kitchen, with its wood burner and row of windows filling the room with light, the scene is set for the delights of the rest of the cottage. She says, “I love the beams that give such personality to each room. The sitting room is a positive space and full of atmosphere. In winter, with a fire in the inglenook and candle light flickering across the beams, there can be no better place to be. Whilst in the summer I throw open the doors to fill the room with warm air and sweet garden scents.” “The bathroom has the special feature of the original Victorian roll top bath, which I painstakingly re enamelled. The room has a French country vibe, and a pleasing view along the village street. It is the perfect de stressing venue.” Two staircases, divide the first floor with the guest room separate to the family bedrooms, making it ideal for visitors to have their privacy and a latch door at the bottom of each staircase, is yet another individual characteristic. Family and guests have the choice of eating in the kitchen or dining room, but the pretty garden provides a natural and sociable setting. Wrapped around the house, it is a happy mix of lawn, fruit trees, green house, potting shed and playhouse. Children play in total security and guests enjoy al fresco dining in irresistible surroundings. Great Staughton is a sociable village with amenities for everyday needs, plus a doctor with in house pharmacy. Vibrant Cambridge is an easy drive and from St Neots there is a fast and regular train service into London KIngs Cross. The cottage and village have provided an idyllic way of life and will be greatly missed.* * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property.
