RECTORY FARM COTTAGE Situated in the heart of the charming Cambridgeshire village of Abbots Ripton is Rectory Farm Cottage, a picture perfect family home that originally dates back to the 15th Century. “I have to say I fell in love with this house the minute I set eyes on it; it’s just glorious. It’s the archetypal thatched country cottage, oozing with character and charm, but it’s by no means a modest dwelling. It offered us all the space we could possibly want, both inside and out, and it enjoys this stunning village location. I’d go so far as to say it’s the most beautiful house we’ve ever lived in.”

Seller Insight Situated in the heart of the charming Cambridgeshire village of Abbots Ripton is Rectory Farm Cottage, a picture perfect family home that originally dates back to the 15th century. I’d go so far as to say it’s the most beautiful house we’ve ever lived in.” We could see that it had the most wonderful potential and so bit-by-bit we’ve worked our way through the house, renovating it. We always intended this to be our forever home, so no expense has been spared. It’s been completely rewired, an entirely new centrally-monitored security and fire system has been installed, it has been redecorated, re-carpeted, had wonderful plantation shutters installed, gates, fences… the list goes on and on. It has been hard work, but we’re thrilled with the result and we’ve actually only just finished, so it’s all fresh and ready for the new owners to enjoy. We really do feel that we have breathed new life into this lovely old building and although it still retains all of its wonderful character and charm, it’s now a really beautiful home that’s ideal for modern family life.” “We always say that we had to ‘rediscover’ the garden; it had been rather neglected over the years before we came here and so it resembled nothing more than one huge bush. We’ve since cut back all of the overgrown shrubs and bushes, had the lawn professionally managed and tried our very best to restore the whole space to its former glory. It’s now a really pretty and easily-maintained garden, and very befitting of this lovely old cottage, you can see the wonderful views across the fields and we enjoy a cheeky snooze in the garden on a summer’s afternoon.” “Abbots Ripton is the most beautiful village. We have a cracking gastro pub just a short stroll away, there’s a brilliant village school, shop and there’s also a fantastic sense of community. We’ve also enjoyed being so centrally located. I have to travel a lot for work by car, train and plane so having such fabulous transport links means that I can get anywhere from London to Scotland, with relative ease, and Stansted airport is only forty five minutes away which is fantastic. In fact it’s a location that I’d say would be hard to better.” “French doors lead out onto the patio and the central courtyard, which is a real suntrap. We love nothing more on a summer’s day than to sit out there and just gaze at the garden and the meadow and fields beyond. It’s stunning and something I’ll really miss when we leave.” * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property. Our favourite part of the house would definitely be the huge drawing room,” say the owners. “It’s heavily beamed, has the most beautiful inglenook, and high ceilings which are unusual in a house of this age, and it’s the room to which we all tend to naturally gravitate. We love it.”

It’s the whole atmosphere of the house that we’ll miss most when we leave. It’s so warm and friendly for such a big house and almost seems to put its arms around you as soon as you set foot through the front door. It’s definitely one of a kind, and it’s going to be a real wrench to leave.”
