SELLER INSIGHT

Blackclough Farm has been in our family for 40 years now,” say the current owners. “When I first saw the property, I loved it for the exclusion, peace and quiet, and the stunning views it offers in every direction. Over all these years, it has never changed, which is very special in this current day and age. Leaving here, I will miss the tranquillity and sense of escapism, the beautiful walks and views, and the traditional pubs which contribute to that real local almost ‘ancient’ way of life.”

The house itself contains a sense of history, too. “We have furnished the house to a high standard, keeping to the original style of the era,” the owners say. “My favourite bedrooms are in the middle-barn: a shepherds room upstairs which is small, quaint, and still has the original fireplace; and the downstairs bedroom which was formally the Sherpa barn and still retains well preserved original features such as the haystack.”

Yet, this remains a living family home, ideal for everyday life and entertaining alike. “Over the years we have hosted many special occasions here,” the owners say, “as accommodation is plentiful and the layout lends itself well to hosting large numbers of guests or small. My best friend of 38 years was married at the farm, my husband celebrated his 50th birthday here, and we have hosted countless family barbecues in the garden with its al fresco seating area and firepit. There is a nice seating area at the front of the middle barn and the farmhouse, too, looking out onto the peaks. When the sun is out, it shines right down on us, as the property is not overlooked at all.”

The local area has much to recommend it, too. “Being set amidst the stunning Staffordshire Moorlands, this is a popular area for horseriding, with miles of bridleways and country walks to explore,” the owners say. “Dramatic views of undulating hills surround every side of the farm, giving you a true sense of isolation. There is a lovely medieval pub, The Knights Table, just 1.5 miles away. The picturesque spa town of Buxton is just 6 miles distant for its renowned golf club, the famous Opera House and Pavilion Gardens, and the historic St Ann’s Well, alongside all everyday amenities and facilities.”*

Step inside Blackclough Farm

One of the most striking features of this Staffordshire Moorlands property is the 360-degree panoramic views of the hillside landscape towards the Goyt Valley expanse. A short 10-minute walk down the gorge delight with the sound of trickling water and meets with the River Dane and popular with hikers, Three Shires Head footpath. Its elevated yet hidden position provides uninterrupted ease and serenity.

Nearby the parish village of Flash is rich in history and known to be the highest-elevated village in England. Popular with passersby, the Flash Bar Stores is lovely for coffee, cakes and pastries. A little further afield is the spa town of Buxton, host to the Buxton Opera House, Pavilion Gardens and many restaurants and bars.

The property consists of a farmhouse and two converted barns. The farmhouse and one of the barns are linked via the main access door or boot room. There is a lockable interleading door for extra privacy between the two dwellings. All three barns are fully self-contained and spoil with spacious and well-appointed accommodations.

The farmhouse has a shower room downstairs. A door leads to a separate lounge and dining area with feature stone-clad fireplaces and oose with character. The kitchen has a beautiful view of the hill to the back of the farm. Stairs lead to two spacious bedrooms and a bathroom.

The attached barn has access through the boot room to the open-plan kitchen and dining area. There is also a shower room. Walk through to the lounge, your eyes drawn to the vaulted ceilings and galleried landing. A log burner creates a focal point in the room. There is a downstairs bedroom with a private access door that leads outside. Upstairs spoils with a large en-suite bedroom (a shower room) and another double bedroom.

The detached barn was converted to a functional and contemporary openplan kitchen, dining and lounge area downstairs, the double volume lounge with its log burner and vaulted ceilings. The stairs lead to the mezzanine ensuite bedroom (shower room) and is large enough to create an additional sitting or study area.

There is no doubt that open views, whether enjoyed from inside or outside, the charm of the stone buildings and the sense of tranquillity will appeal to buyers looking for a home that provides ample space but also privacy or anyone looking to invest in a holiday let business.
