Cagwait beach has it’s own definition of beauty and this beach is part of my top 10 favorite beach here in Mindanao. It’s cream look like sand and ‘C’ shape curve makes this place special. Cagwait was part of our Surigao Del Sur/Del norte exploration and I was lucky I found this traveler’s group who facilitate DIY exploration. 2 years ago I was really longing for this place cause I really want to see to my self the beauty of this place and it’s creamy color powder sand. And Cagwait didn’t disappoint me cause its really a creamy color powder like sand.

Information of Cagwait:

CAGWAIT WHITE BEACH is situated in the Municipality of Cagwait, the 4thclass municipality of Surigao del Sur which is about 32 kilometers Southeast of Tandag, the capital town of the province of Surigao del Sur. It faces the coast of the Pacific Ocean in the east and Mount Diwata on the west.

According to history, a young sailor from the Leyte province who escaped from the Spaniards noticed while passing the bay, a resemblance of a human mouth and/or the esophagus which in he uttered “mao rag wait” in native dialect thus the establishment of its name, Cagwait.- bestspotph.com

The white sand beach can be likened to that of Boracay’s minus the amenities of course. It offers basic room amenities, basic resto bar outside the building.

This LGU-run establishment is always the venue of the annual Kaliguan Festival which is becoming famous in the region.

tip: buy some seafoods in Aras-asan Market and hire somebody to cook it for you. Its a lot more cheaper and tastier too..

The sand in Cagwait beach is very fine but it is actually not a white sand as other reviewers have written. It is a reddish brown sand but it is very fine and very nice for the kids to play. There were not so many accommodations in the area and no quality rooms but the good thing is that the place is not that touristy. When we went there, there were very few people so we enjoyed the beach by ourselves which is very nice. The waves though are a bit huge because it is facing the pacific ocean. But it is still worth visiting.

A C-shaped white sand beach in the laid-back town of Cagwait, the Cagwait White Beach was once named as the Waikiki Beach of the Philippines by Charles Lindbergh, a famous pilot. It is a long stretch of white sand beach just few minutes from the town center.

It was raining when I visited Cagwait so the water was a bit cold. i thought I would not be able to enjoy the beach but I actually did. I played with the waves and stayed longer as planned.

If your coming from Davao City, take a bus/van going to Tandag City and tell the bus conductor/driver that you are going to Cagwait. There are two options in going to Cagwait White Beach : 1) alight at the junction of Cagwait where you can see the welcome landmark, then take a tricycle going to the white beach P10; 2) alight at the Aras-asan bus terminal and take a tricycle going to the white beach P15 each. The first option is more convenient. Alternatively, you can cut your trip if you can’t find a Tandag-bound bus. Take a bus from Davao/Butuan and alight at San Franz bus terminal and then take another bus/van going to Tandag. Fare from Davao to San Franz by Bachelor Express bus (airconditioned) is P370 for 4-5 hours and fare from San Franz to Cagwait by van is P120 for 2-3 hours

Reality point

Water of Cagwait is not that clear and some part there’s a water grass floating on the water. So if you are a beach bummer who are a big fan of clear blueish water then Cagwait is not for you.

Overall Cagwait is a great place for family and friends who wants to enjoy new things and powdery sand.

So tARA na sa CAGWAIT Beach at languy-languy na ta!!!
