Perusing the website, this hotel looks stately, elegant and very typically British. Unfortunately, on arrival, it's more British council estate than stately building!!
In fairness, the grounds are stunning, with acres of well kept gardens, a beautiful lake, tennis court, croquet lawns and pitch and put. The front of the main building is also beautiful and is of course what they use to sell the experience to you. Unfortunately, where we actually stayed was a separate building out the back which looked more like a block of flats.
The room was tiny but did the job. Unfortunately, it was boiling hot as the heating has now been put on 24 hours a day and the window only opens a crack. There was tea and coffee making facilities, free wifi in the room (excellent), hairdryer (no mirror in the room apart from the one in the bathroom - not so excellent).
The bed was comfy so can't really complain. There is also a small gym with basic facilities. The bar is an average hotel bar with pricy drinks. The breakfast was ok - typical buffet breakfast. Unfortunately, we had to sit on a table that had already been used and hadn't been cleared. Simple touches that could have made the experience more enjoyable.
On the whole though the staff were friendly and helpful and for the £65 room rate it was an A-OK experience.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
