Great spot off the beaten path. The burgers are totally worth a trip. The inside of the shop is quaint and not much there, but you come for the burger, so dig in.

Lovely little burger joint deep in the middle of nowhere southern IL! Cute little general store turned restaurant. Your order your food and there are picnic benches out to the side or a few benches inside. Very nice staff. Chips and soda or real birch beer also available. Always a good stop when on a road trip and passing sort of nearby. Highly recommend

This place is off the beaten path, but worth the drive if you're remotely close. Super unique in that it is in the absolutely middle of nowhere. In the middle of nowhere and there will still be a line to get your food. It's nice to know that all the ground beef used comes from local cattle farmers. The burgers are tasty and the people are nice. Note: They are only open from 6AM until Noon, that's it!

Deep in the fields of central Illinois exists a store. A special store. A store that cooks burgers of legendary size and flavor.
For miles there exist only farms and forests. But here you will find something special, something rare. You will find burgers...and various other foods of equal delight...ready to be thrust upon you.
But be thee warned the beef is thick and fresh. After eating here you may never find satisfaction with another burger.
The staff are friendly and the nostalgia of the location will make you feel like you stepped back in time a bit.
They also serve various drinks, kettle chips, candy and ice cream.
However, be sure to bring cash as they don't accept credit cards. I do believe they have an ATM on location though. Prices are very affordable!
They have benches you can sit inside on, but the outdoor seating is ample with plenty of picnic tables.
Yes the journey be a long one. But the destination be worth it in my opinion.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Sara K.Charlotte, NC2912282Jul 27, 2021
This place is so much fun! Be prepared to stand outside on Saturday, line moves fairly quickly. Bring cash as well as they don't take cards. You go through a line inside to place your order and then wait outside to be called. Great, fresh burgers - the double is really big - bring your appetite!

In the middle of cornfields in Illinois is a hidden gem. Moonshine Illinois, one of the best burgers around and a hidden secret. No moonshine that I could see, so bring your own and enjoy a triple bacon burger, had to remove a patty to be able to bite it. Worth the trip.

We really enjoy going to this burger joint in the middle of the country. Great burgers and pork burgers, they have a lot of old type sodas and different flavors. Have a variety of chips to. I believe they have ham and cheese sandwiches and a couple of other items also. I have seen a lot of jeep runs there, poker runs with motorcycles, tour buses stopping in. We have a couple of Church benches for seating inside and you have to hold your food on your lap. There are picnic tables outside for large groups and the summertime. They give you a plain burger then you have to put all the condiments on it and they have lots of different condiments
Homemade relish, all sorts of stuff would definitely recommend if you like to try different types of places to eat and visit.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 14, 2015
Moonshine is what it is. Period. You can get excellent cheeseburgers. If you want gourmet, then don't even bother trying to find the place.
The Moonshine Country Store is exactly what it says it is. It is an old country store. There are novelties everywhere. Out of fashion signs say things like "Complaint Department, 100 miles to your right".
The atmosphere is down home, unpretentious and very NOT fast paced. The bathrooms are port-a-potties across the road.
There isn't indoor seating. There are some benches and a few chairs but these are for the people waiting to pick up the orders. There is ample room for seating outside. Plenty of picnic tables. Once in a while the tables do get full, but that is mostly during biker rally time, or on occasion a busy weekend day.
It is true that the grill is turned off at 12:30 PM. There has only been one exception. During a biker rally one year (I think 2004) there were so many people already in line to order that one of the owners came out and said that everyone currently in line would get fed. The grill stayed open until 1:15 that day.
Speaking of the owners/staff; there are about 6 employees. They do this every day and they have for years. Very very nice people.
Burgers, chips and bottled soda is what you get. Come for the experience, come back because you know what you are going to get. It is a great experience.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
