I booked this hotel for my executive and the hotel scammed us! The site said the hotel was .8 km from the city center but was really an hour drive away from the city center. My executive had to find a new hotel closer to the city and the Tschuggen would not refund us! Terrible customer service. Do not stay here unless you want to get scammed.

We spent five or so nights here last February, and I'd say this is probably the best hotel in Arosa (the other option is the Kulm). The architecture is quite interesting, since there is a significant contrast between the rustic main hotel, and the ultra-modern HUGE spa. The rooms are quite spacious, very well appointed, and all seemingly quite new. The bathrooms are awesome, with overhead rain showers, and they are all covered in the same granite they used in the spa. The views from the private balconies are great overlooking the mountain, especially at night.
There are three restaurants in the hotel: large formal dining room, a more intimate upscale restaurant directly adjacent, and a more rustic, classically Swiss restaurant downstairs, complete with kegelbahn. All three restaurants are great.
If you're in Arosa during the winter, you're probably there to ski. There is a ski shop on site with everything you need. I normally travel with my own skis, but I didn't want to schlep them all the way to Europe, and I'm glad I didn't. Tschuggen is pretty much ski-in, ski-out, and there is a really awesome monorail that takes guests directly from the hotel to the mountain. This was seriously one of the coolest monorails I've ever been in.
The spa is one of the best I've ever seen; if not, then it was certainly the largest. The pool area is massive. The dry sauna is also quite large, and really well done in logs of wood. Every day during our stay there are special Aufguss sessions, which were always nice.
I'd been skiing in Switzerland twice prior, once in Davos and the other time in St. Moritz. Arosa was my favorite, thanks in large part to the Tschuggen.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Vincent L.Manhattan, NY35118250Jan 15, 2017
The Tschuggen Grand Hotel is many steps above the rest of the Swiss mountain resort. It is two buildings, one for the lodging and restaurant, which is a little dated and is typical of your Swiss ski chalet. The building is connected via a state of the art spa facility. Three stories tall and the architect has the luxury of having all the space needed to make this a world class spa. It is more than a 5 star resort. Staff is friendly, accommodating and always ready to provide that Swiss hospitality. Getting to the resort is a beautiful mountain train ride. You are greeted by a chauffeured gulf wing Tesla as you get of the train...complimentary. It is just too much to list. You have to come and experience this luxury gem.

This is one of the Hotels that lets you think whether yelp shouldn't have six stars and not just five. It's a truly great place. Not just because it's so luxurious, not just because of its incredibly spacious spa (I am sure I will never see a bigger and better one), and not just because of the great restaurants, including one with a Michelin star. I could go on like this for pages without end, but what makes the real difference is the friendliness of this place.
It's not just courtesy, that's standard. These people are of the kind that simply like to be nice. The man that gets your car truly loves driving them carefully to the main entrance. The girl that suggests a hiking route is more than happy to hand you a small bag with two bottles of water - and a bag of peanuts to feed the squirrels on the way. Everyone is always happy to stay around for a bit of conversation, it's just an allround wonderful place.
This is a truly Grand Hotel. And it's worth every penny you spend. Magnificent.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - C B.Portland, OR129823505Oct 5, 2014
Beautiful location but unpleasantly bland and characterless. We always referred to this place as the "pimp hotel", as it's one of those place where you constantly run into creepy old men and their far-too-young prostitutes. ("Oh how cute, he's here with his granddaughter! ... Oh my god, are they making out??")
Growing up we spent every skiing trip in Arosa, staying at the beautiful, historic, family-run Waldhotel. The Tschuggen inevitably felt like the archnemesis of the Waldhotel. This place is, admittedly, clean, luxurious and modern. However, there is nothing "Arosa" about it, and nothing that says "Switzerland".
We were at the Tschuggen frequently to hang out with friends who usually stayed here, but I always felt like the Tschuggen has a cold and impersonal atmosphere. Our own hotel made you feel warm and at home. And that's coming from someone who is normally especially fond of modernist architecture, industrial-looking design, etc., I'm far from a traditionalist.
The location offers convenient access to the slope and beautiful views, but at the same time, it's not very close to the old downtown area of Arosa where the best bars and restaurants are. You will likely feel isolated from the bustle of apres-ski life.
If you're a big fan of ultra-modern and don't mind mind the impersonal atmosphere, then the Tschuggen is definitely your best, most luxurious choice in Arosa. There's no disputing that! But if you want luxury combined with traditional, Swiss atmosphere in a spacious, family-run hotel right up into the trees by the slopes and two minutes from the life of the town, choose the Waldhotel.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Dear Guest
Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review on yelp. We do appreciate every comment from our guests, as they provide us with insightful information.
Much to our regret, you have not been fully content with your experience at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel. Perhaps it was the design or the architecture that was not to your liking or even the fact that you were only able to see a snapshot of our facilities in the lobby and the bar that have resulted in your impression. We also believe your words regarding our guests are not living up to the truth and do not do justice to our valued guests.
Our creative team, led by renowned Swiss interior designer Carlo Rampazzi had a completely different vision than "bland" or "characterless". He is actually known for his lively and colourful interiors, having had much success and appealing to many of our valued guests. Moreover, the addition of the Tschuggen Bergoase, our Spa designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Mario Botta, has created a new landmark for the destination Arosa. Spread over four floors and 5,000 m² in size, the Tschuggen Bergoase is one of the most innovative spa projects in Switzerland, perhaps even throughout the world.
Creating a contemporary fairy-tale is not the only thing that is close to us. The warm ambience is reflected in the personalised and discreet service that has won the hearts of travellers, whatever their provenance. It is true that we are not located in the heart of the oldtown, however it is only a two-minute ride away, provided complimentary to our guests. Being a wellness hotel, we are glad to be located a few minutes away from the bustle to provide a relaxing atmosphere.
Historically, there is also much to discover about the Tschuggen Grand Hotel. Founded in 1883 as a therapeutic institution for lung conditions, the Sanatorium Berghilf was one of the founders of tourism for the destination Arosa. Many of its historical references can still be found in today's structure, even after a tragic fire in 1966.
Dear Guest, once again we would like to thank you for your visit as well for your feedback. We hope to have given you some new insights of the hotel, the thoughts that ran into creating a unique atmosphere as well as for the people that stand behind its heritage and service philosophy.
We hope you will be able to visit us on another occasion, maybe even giving us the chance to show you around on a personalised tour of the hotel.
In the meantime, we send you our best regards and remain at your disposal for any further questions.
Your Tschuggen Team
