Suhot Cave and Cold Spring in barangay Dolores has a newly built seven-room accommodation for overnighters and a number of nipa huts which may be rented for day excursions. Before the building was built, the caves and spring were the main attraction, attracting excursionists from as far as Iloilo. “During the Holy Week, a group of manggagamot or albularyos from Iloilo City would go inside the cave from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday. They would drink only water to sustain themselves. It is believed that the cave possesses energy that renews the healing powers of these albularyos,” says Leah Gialogo, Dumalag
Caving and cold spring in Dumalag • langyaw
The interior of Capiz is quite interesting. Not only are there several waterfalls like Kalikasan and Malinamon Falls but there are also beautiful caves. I’ve visited two in the landlocked municipality of Dumalag: Lahab and Suhot Caves within a natural spring resort compound.
Lahab is stunning and creepy. It’s mouth dark with several stalactites visible from the entrance, giving it a menacing look. Devilish. A probable portal to the underworld of which Capiz is rumored to be the haven of such creatures? But those are just rumors and this cave is really a beauty.
Our guide lead the way into the rather dark chamber with us armed with flashlights and cameras. The occasional firing of the flash briefly lit the interior and creepy but momentary shadows of rock formations spooked us a while.
