San Nicasio Patatas Fritas

Back in May I found out that Fayrefield foods were launching a new product in the UK called San Nicasio Patatas Fritas (crisps to you and me).
San Nicasio potato chips are made with the sour type of non-transgenic potatoes of Spanish origin exclusively, which guarantees a maximum quality, a delicious palate and a crunchy texture, in keeping with the expectations of the most discerning consumer and connoisseur.
After opening the stylish pink bag you notice the crisps have a very distinctive colour which I guess is due to the olive oil which comes from a blend of the picudas, picuales and hojiblancas varieties of olives.
I wouldn’t say there is any particular aroma from the crisps but once you place one in your mouth you can taste the olive oil which is mild and delicious. The crisps are very lightly seasoned with salt which is good as you wouldn’t want anything else to spoil the flavour of the snack. The crunch from the crisp is perfect; you wouldn’t want to eat them in a quiet room full of people that’s for sure!
Amazingly the crisps had a very consistent thickness which is probably the thinnest I’ve seen in a crisp, but that’s not a bad thing. I also found these crisps very rich which would prevent you from eating a whole pack to yourself, which again is not a bad thing. I must admit when I first started eating the crisps I felt they might have been lacking something, I even went so far as to think they may need to be enjoyed with a dip but after working my way through a bowl I now understand that my pallet required time to get used to the delicate flavours.
San Nicasio are not a crisp that relies on fancy flavours like sweet chilli or balsamic vinegar, they are not a crisp you would want to eat with sandwiches for lunch.  They are however a simple crisp that you would want to enjoy like a canapé with a variety of drinks from wine to real ale.
I’m not even going to try and compare these crisps with any other brand out there because although similar none of the other crisps I’ve tasted are actually like these.  If you are the kind of person who likes a crisp coated with flavour then these may not be the crisp for you.

San Nicasio are available at rsp £3.49 to £.99 for 190g and can be purchased online at Fayrefield and colliers for £3.49
