Bunny Berigan with Danny Richards: Skylark 1942
I just finished reading Mr. Trumpet, Mike Zirpolo’s remarkable bio of the legendary Bunny Berigan. One of Zirpolo’s observations is that the vocalist Danny Richards truly received the short end of the stick when it came to having him recorded. He deserved better, as this March 1942 performance of Skylark attests, in addition to hearing an ailing Berigan beautifully executing this Johnny Mercer – Hoagy Carmichael classic.
