A Visit To Lawrenceburg, Dillsboro, and Versailles, Indiana

Dave and I took off for Lawrenceburg, Dillsboro, and Versailles, Indiana this past week.  McCabe’s Greenhouse and Floral in Lawrenceburg, Indiana is always filled with great ideas for decorating.   Our day started with this spot because they have items for fairy gardens. A Visit To Lawrenceburg, Dillsboro, and Versailles, Indiana Sophie and I are coming up with ideas to use a fairy house and some fairies I just ordered from Amazon, which we will share in an upcoming post.  (We are an Amazon affiliate and just became an affiliate of Pretmanns.  We may receive a small percentage of any sales through this link at no cost to you.  Thanks for supporting this website!)

McCabe’s In Lawrenceburg, Indiana

McCabe’s had a lot of little items for adding to your fairy garden, which you can see in this collage.  I was looking for a clear glass orb to display the fairy house and fairies.  They didn’t have any on hand.  Maybe a terrarium would be easier to find here locally.

Miniature Succulents

I did buy a few miniature succulents for our little fairy project.

McCabe’s has Christmas trees on display all over the store.  I love seeing what other people do with their Christmas trees.  Some great ideas here, don’t you think?  They have a ton of ornaments, too.  Visiting here any time of year is fun but especially at Christmas.

Janet’s Diner In Dillsboro, Indiana

From here, we headed over to see our daughter and granddaughter in Dillsboro.  We decided to take them to lunch at Janet’s Diner in Dillsboro

Janet’s Diner is just an unassuming small town diner.  Janet and the people who work here are very friendly and the food is good.

Memphis had the dinosaur chicken nuggets with ranch dressing on the side.  She seemed to enjoy the meal.

Well, you know I love pork tenderloin sandwiches and of course, when I’m in Indiana and it’s on the menu, that’s my order.

Leaving Janet’s, I was struck by the beauty of this old Victorian house.  It’s a shame it’s in disrepair.  Not sure what this beautiful detail under the reverse gable means but I’m sure there is a story.  Just imagine how beautiful this home must have been at one time.

Have you ever seen a little gas burner stove like this before?  It is so unique and I’m wondering where these were used!  Does anybody have information on this?  It only stands about two-feet tall.  Please comment at the bottom of the page if you do!A Visit To Lawrenceburg, Dillsboro, and Versailles, Indiana

There is a very talented family that owns this unique little shop.  I love what they have done with several hutches displayed in the store and this is my favorite!  A Visit To Lawrenceburg, Dillsboro, and Versailles, Indiana

This French Country Chic Shabby Vintage Style red birdcage clock caught my eye.  My clock collection is expanding.  Dave said I should buy it and so, I did.  It was only 15 bucks!

Danielle, my daughter, was drawn to this mail keeper.  The lady at the register said she had painted it.  She did an incredible job.  As I said, this family is very talented. The Rustic Nail

The items are artfully displayed and even though there is a lot here, it is not overpowering.  You will want to walk around a couple of times though.  You’ll see things you missed the second time around!  If you are in the area, don’t’ miss this shop!

Pat’s Bulk Food is located in Versailles, Indiana.  I love this place!  They offer great and affordable ingredients for baking, cooking, and candy making!  They have been open for almost 30 years at 44921 US Hwy 50 in Versailles.  After the holidays, they will be moving to the corner of Tyson and Main on the Town Square in Versailles.  That is even better for us!

Powdered Vanilla

Have you ever heard of ‘powdered vanilla’?  Well, I hadn’t.  There was a paper with information on this ingredient displayed with the powdered vanilla with the following information.

  • The flavor is comparable to pure vanilla at a much better price per ounce.
  • The powdered form has a strong flavor that does not bake out in high temperatures.
  • Powdered vanilla measures the same as liquid vanilla.
  • It can be mixed with dry ingredients without lumps forming.
  • Powdered vanilla will not thin ingredients during whipping.
  • It can be used without discoloring foods, such as whipping cream, egg whites, and icings.

Tips On How To Use The Vanilla

  •  Try adding to meringue for meringue pies.  It makes a great tasting difference.
  • Try adding 1-1/2 teaspoons per 2 cups of powdered sugar for cookies and doughnuts that require coating in powdered sugar.

Candy Decorations

Pat’s has a variety of candy decorations and flavorings for adding to your baked goods, ice cream, or whatever.  Our Christmas Dessert Contest theme this year is ‘The Candy Cane’.  I spotted this little container of teeny tiny candy cane decorations and picked it up just in case.A Visit To Lawrenceburg, Dillsboro, and Versailles, Indiana

Rada Mfg Company Quick Edge

Dave picked up this knife sharpener, which looks pretty low-tech to me.  He said one of his friends had this ‘Quick Edge’, he had used it, and it was great.  He needed it and we bought it along with an accumulation of other items.  (We are an Amazon affiliate and may receive a small percentage of any sales through this link at no cost to you.  Thanks for supporting this website!)

Spices and Seasonings

A big variety of spices and seasonings are available, but on this occasion, I needed to replenish our supply of bay leaves.  We added this bag to our basket.  If you have bought bay leaves lately, you know what a steal this is!

Bags of spices and seasonings at a reasonable price line a number of shelves.

If you bake, cook, or make candy, you won’t regret visiting Pat’s!
