Many recognize the town of Gerlach, NV as the last stop before heading to the Black Rock Desert. With the town population being 206 (2010 Census), there aren't many places for people to stay before, or during, Burning Man, hunting trips, or Jeep crawls in the mountains.

However, one of the oldest buildings in town known as the Gerlach Hotel, has sat vacant for a number a years since the owner Loella Sweet died in 2012. Locals in town say her son took over ownership but has done nothing with the property.

"There were times when people from the dump were pulling things out of there and it seems like each room was just full of stuff," says Jason Walters, a Gerlach resident since 2007.

Recently, the property sold for $95,000, after dozens of bids were placed, in Washoe County probate court this week. The question still remains, what will happen to this property and who is the new owner?

"I hope they at least knock it down because it's beyond repair at this point," says Andrea Phillips, resident since 2004. "We don't really have a store out here and plenty of people visit so something like that could help our neighbors out."
