Abia Govt Promises Upgraded Payment System For Keke Riders In Umuahia

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue, Mr Chimereze Okeigbo has appealed to Tricycle Operators, otherwise known as Keke, to exercise patience as Government intensifies efforts at upgrading the system to work faster.

 

He was responding to the appeal made by some of the tricycle operators in Umuahia who came to complain about time wasted in cueing to obtain their daily tickets due to slowness in the payment platform.

 

Okeigbo noted that the system became slow due to upsurge in compliance from those paying for tickets and needed an upgrade to contain the traffic adding that engineers were working assiduously to restore it to normalcy.

He disclosed that Government stepped down enforcement to get the system working well and has since recommenced enforcement after two hours.

 

He urged them to utilize other payment options provided by government including the weekly, monthly and yearly options with their discount advantages to save them the stress of daily queues.

The SA on IGR further disclosed that with effect from next week, more payment points would be provided at strategic locations and junctions while government was equally working on providing a USSD code option for easy, faster and seamless payment.

He added that those who own Android phones could also download and make use of the AbiaPay App to enable them make payments at their own convenience, and thanked them for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner.

 

Earlier, some of the Keke riders who spoke including Onyekachi Adiele Madu Chukwudi and Emmanuel Okwara raised some concerns that need to be addressed including making the payment platform work faster, introducing USSD code, as well as staying action on enforcement and time enforcement should start.

 

They also commended the Government for introducing the payment system for a seamless process and appealed for an upgrade on the system.
