Dive team searching for missing fishermen near Guide Rock

The Webster County Sheriff said dive teams are searching for two men who were fishing near Guide Rock, after they went underwater.

In a press release, the sheriff said the call came about 3:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon of a possible drowning at the Guide Rock Diversion Dam south of Guide Rock.

The sheriff said three adult men were fishing and went two went underwater being pulled by the undertow. One man was able to get to safety.

Nebraska Game and Parks conservation officers responded, along with local rescue teams.


Fire and rescue squads from Guide Rock and Red Cloud were called, along with law enforcement from both Webster and Nuckolls Counties to help with a search.

The Hebron/Deshler dive team was also called to assist, but the sheriff said they were unable to locate the men on Friday night and searching will continue Saturday. As of 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, they had not been able to recover the missing men.
