Report about Plateau State University (PLASU) Bokkos loosing its operating Licence False – Registrar

The Plateau State University Bokkos has described as false and unfounded, rumours making rounds that the institution may loose its operating licence. According to a statement issued Registrar/Secretary to Council Yakubu Ayuba, on behalf of management of the institution made reference to a press release by a political party and a letter purported to have written by the National University Commission (NUC) to the Visitor to the University and Executive Governor of Plateau State.

The University notes with regrets and disappointment that the said publications currently circulating on social media was capable of causing anxiety and shaking the confidence of students, staff, parents and prospective students.

Consequently, the Management of the University made the following clarifications:

“That PLASU is a citadel of knowledge and the legacy of Plateau people should not be dragged into any political contestation, especially those that have no bearing on the University’s academic activities.”

“That since the suspension of industrial action by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), PLASU Branch, following engagement with the Government which made available funds to settle the demands of the Union, the revised Academic Calendar has been running smoothly, with lectures for the semester concluded and examinations commencing on the 15thof April, 2024.”

“That admissions have since been concluded into the existing and new programmes approved by NUC.”

“That admissions have similarly been concluded into the Postgraduate programmes of the University.”

“That PLASU has grown steadily with the current student population approaching 10,000 and a steady expansion of Staff strength which is indicative of a bright future for the University.”

“That PLASU has not sacked any Staff nor has it received directive from any quarters to sack any staff. On the contrary, the newly employed Staff are servicing the existing and new programmes of the University.”

“That Management is deeply concerned by the false impression put out in the public domain to the effect that Staff members recruited to service new programmes have been laid off. This is both false and misleading.”

“That Management is aware of the need for additional Staff to meet the expansion in academic programmes and intends to take it up with the proprietor for approval to recruit more Staff”.

In the light of the above, the Management of PLASU assured its students, parents, staff, stakeholders, potential students and the general public that there are no concerns in the relationship between the NUC and PLASU as it is academic and professional, therefore fears of the withdrawal of the University’s operating license as insinuated in some quarters have no basis.
