Geri Halliwell-Horner is getting candid about saying “goodbye” to the bright colors of her Spice Girls era.

The singer, 51, opened up about why her fashion has transformed over the years from “loud, expressive” ensembles to a “calmer palette” during an appearance on Today with Hoda & Jenna.

“You only wear whites and creams, is that true?” Jenna Bush Hager asked her.

“I don’t know about you, but as you get older, you want to keep it simple,” Halliwell-Horner responding, noting: “And one thing I’ll say is everything matches. It’s just, like, fast, fast.”

She likened it to how men often dress in more simple ensembles, which makes it easier for them to pick an outfit since there are so many different combinations with the basics.

"You look at the men who are always wearing these same things — a uniform,” she continued. “Can’t I do the same? Why not?”

Halliwell-Horner's new style is a far cry from what she wore at the height of her Spice Girls fame in the ‘90s — which was brought up when Today showed an image of her wearing her iconic Union Jack dress.

"I made that dress out of a tea towel," she said, adding that when she looks back on those outfits, "I go, 'Aww.'"

In a 2020 interview with Vogue, Halliwell-Horner said her style at a time that had "a real strong flavor."

When it came to the Union Jack dress, which she paired with red latex platform boots, she explained that “the length of the dress is the sexuality and the big boots are saying, ‘You know what, you’re not going to mess with me either.’ ”

The outfit then became a worldwide symbol of girl power, and everyone from Kate Moss to Prince William started wearing British flag-embroidered pieces. It was eventually auctioned off for nearly $50,000 in 1998.

Halliwell-Horner also discussed the difficulties of finding her style over time, especially as she grew older. The singer told Vogue that she was at a crossroads in her life at that time — 10 years older than she was at the start of her career, but wanting to prove that she was still just as sexy.

And during the Spice Girls reunion in 2017, she wore a Roberto Cavalli version of the Union Jack dress covered in crystals. "I think it’s quite a hard age to be. [Like,] 'Where do you belong?' " Horner said. "That dress, the Cavalli dress, absolutely epitomizes everything I was feeling."

Halliwell-Horner also wore a full-length Union Jack ballgown that featured a corset and a drop-waist for the Spice Girls 2019 reunion tour. “I felt a sense of power in developing the dress into something different, something even more timeless," she said of the outfit. "For me, it shows the revolution of being a woman."

The singer, who married Christian Horner in 2015 and is the mother of two children, added that all of her experiences helped her slowly transition her wardrobe over the years to something more simple and classic.

She told Vogue, “The way I dress has always reflected how I feel about myself at that time.”
