Moodabidri (also called Mudbidri, Moodbidre and Bedra), is a town and a taluk in Dakshina Kannada district. It lies 34 km northeast of the district headquarters, Mangalore city, in Karnataka, India.
Because of widely grown bamboo in ancient days, this place got named as Moodabidri. Moodabidri comes from two words: Moodu and Bidiru. Moodumeans East and Bidiru means bamboo.
Moodabidri in Karnataka is famous for its HANUMAN temple. The idol of HANUMAN here dates back to several centuries. People from all over places worship this HANUMAN with great devotion with popular tender coconut offering. People who wish their desires to be fulfilled, offer five tender coconuts to Lord HANUMAN here.
The deity here has showered lots of blessings to people who have visited this temple and offered tender coconuts.People around this place have experienced a lot of supernatural events caused by this deity.

Once a thief had stolen jewellery worth several crores from a temple nearby Moodabidri. Police had a glimpse of the thief from CCTV cameras. However even after a very hard search they were not able to find the thief. The temple authoriries later visited this HANUMAN temple and offered five thousand coconuts with a wish that the thief be found and the jewellery be recovered. Just a few days later, the thief was found and arrested recovering all the stolen jewellery.
Once a sports event was organized in a nearby place in a stadium. However, it was raining heavily during those times and the organizers were doubtful of conducting the event. One of the organizers visited this HANUMAN temple and offered tender coconuts to the deity wishing the sporting events be conducted succesfully. As per the wish of the organizer, the sporting event was conducted succesfully because of no rainfall in the stadium. However, to everybody's major surprise is the rainfall didnt happen only in the stadium but it rained heavily in all areas surrounding the stadium.
This temple is located in the south western part of Karnataka and can be visited by travelling on road from Mangalore which is about 40 kms.
