The Archies were a band based on the cartoon characters in the Archie comics. While their public face was ostensibly the cartoon characters of Archie, Reggie, Jughead, Veronica and Betty, the real people behind it were Ron Dante, Toni Wine, Jeff Barry, Bobby Bloom, Ellie Greenwich and Andy Kim and other session musicians. They managed 6 US chart hits and 2 UK hits with ‘Sugar Sugar’ being their only chart topper in both countries. Dante was also the lead singer of The Cuff Links who had SA chart success, Andy Kim had solo hits in his own name as well as under the name Baron Longfellow. Bobby Bloom also had a solo hit while Toni Wine, Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich all saw success as song writers.
