Glass Tiger formed in the town of Newmarket in Ontario when 2 local bands, The End and Onyx, broke up and various members from the 2 bands, pulled together by drummer Mike Hanson, formed a new group. The new band was called Tokyo and this would eventually morph into Glass Tiger. As Glass Tiger they saw immediate success with their first album, ‘The Thin Red Line’ producing 5 Canadian chart hits, including the number 1 ‘Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone’)’ which featured Bryan Adams helping out on vocals. Three of those 5 would chart in the US with ‘Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone’)’ going to number 2 and it would be their best peak there. It would also go to 29 in the UK and be their highest placing on those charts. Their second album, ‘Diamond Sun’ gave them 4 more Canadian hits, but only 1 track, ‘I’m Still Searching’ would chart in the US and the title track, would be the only single from the album to chart in the UK. This would end their US and UK chart careers (4 US hits, 3 in the UK) but they would see further Canadian hits (giving them 14 in total). Despite having no chart success since 1993, they have continued to tour and release material with 2020’s ‘Songs For A Winter Night’ being their latest at the time of writing. They were 1 of 25 Canadian act to chart in SA and finished 25th on a top 20 points basis for Canadian acts and tied 25th on a top 30 points basis.
