Serpentine Falls is a MUST visit in Perth

I recently moved to Perth, Australia and I have been on the hunt for the best waterfalls. Winter is still a few months away so finding a waterfall that actually has water flowing is tough right now. I stumbled across Serpentine Falls on Instagram and I knew I needed to visit! I love waterfalls and I especially love waterfalls that you can swim in. Serpentine Falls is the best combination of stunning falls and a refreshing swimming pool. It is definitely one of the best waterfalls in Perth.

How to Get to Serpentine Falls

Located in Serpentine National Park, the waterfall is just one hour from Perth CBD. It is a quick drive and easy to find using Google Maps. The entry fee is $15 per vehicle and there is a big picnic area and decent sized parking lot. The picnic area actually has really nice BBQs and it would be a good place to have an afternoon picnic.

The walk to Serpentine Falls is really short. It takes a few minutes to walk from the parking lot to the swimming hole and the path is well paved the whole way.

When to Visit Serpentine Falls

I visited Serpentine Falls in March (End of Summer beginning of Spring) and the weather was perfect! It was hot enough outside that swimming in the pool felt super refreshing and there was still a good amount of water streaming down. If you visit during the peak of summer the waterfall might dry up, but the swimming hole is still a reason to visit. Likewise, if you go during the winter the waterfall will probably be raging but it might be too cold to swim.

I visited on a weekday and we practically had the place to ourselves. Expect that the weekends will be more crowded as it is a popular spot. On really popular weekends the park will fill up, so arrive before 10 am to ensure that you will get in. The park is open from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

Don’t Miss the Friendly Kangaroos

One of my favorite parts of the day was hanging with the kangaroos in the picnic area. These guys were super friendly and totally unafraid of humans. We took a lot of selfies with them as they continued to feast on the grass.
