In the Central Cordillera of the Andes of the Republic of Colombia is located one of the snowstorms with the highest influx of tourists in the country. It is the Nevado del Tolima, located in the Tolima municipalities of Anzoátegui and Ibagué. This volcanic formation is part of the protected area of ​​Los Nevado National Natural Park along with other volcanoes such as Nevado de Santa Isabel and the popular Nevado del Ruiz.

The Nevado del Tolima offers diverse characteristics that makes it one of the most privileged places in this part of the world, for example, it is said that the mountain has the smallest glacier mass in Colombia and has an altitude of 5220 meters above sea level. sea ​​level. This mountain can be observed from several points of the country, even from Bogotá and Soacha it is possible to notice it.

Actually there are several characteristics that can be highlighted in the Nevado del Tolima, Colombia, however its main letter of presentation is related to its particular and striking conical shape that presents the volcano which ends with a small glacier located at the top of the same. This combination of elements makes the volcano present an interesting visual and landscape character.

The Nevado del Tolima also has among its main features the location of a crater inside the aforementioned glacier, this crater has the particularity of presenting a diameter of approximately 180 meters. On its slopes located near the summit it is possible to observe ancient lava flows that are interspersed with small glacial tongues, most of them, that go down to 5000 meters of altitude.

It is considered that Nevado del Tolima is one of the most representative and active stratovolcanoes located in the Central Andes of the Republic of Colombia. From the farthest you can see its particular cone shape, almost perfect at 5,215 meters above sea level. It is one of the most complicated mountains to climb within the Los Nevados National Natural Park, in addition to one of the most demanding in the entire Republic of Colombia.

The mountain, located within the Los Nevados National Natural Park, is approximately 5,215 meters high and is considered the second highest summit of that place.

 



Location


The Nevado del Tolima volcano is located specifically in the department of Tolima in the Republic of Colombia and is on the south side of one of the most famous volcanoes in the country such as the Nevado del Ruiz volcano. This volcanic formation, also known as La Montaña Dulima, named after the conquest by indigenous natives, is located right in the Central Cordillera of the Andes of Colombia.

Along with other volcanoes such as Nevado de Santa Isabel and Nevado del Ruiz, the Nevado del Tolima volcano is part of the protected area of ​​the Los Nevados National Natural Park, one of the most important tourist destinations in the Republic of Colombia. The surface of this park is part of several departments, including Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío and Tolima.
