The historic castle has been acquired by a restaurant group.

Sneaton Castle has been officially acquired by family-run business Cross Butts, owners of The Stable at Cross Butts, and is set to undergo a huge transformation.

The castle, which dates back to the 19th century, will be converted into a luxury hotel and wedding venue – becoming Cross Butts second luxury destination in Yorkshire.

The acquisition has been supported by HSBC, who have provided a seven-figure package for the project.

John Morley, owner of Cross Butts and now Sneaton Castle, has said:

“When the opportunity came to purchase Sneaton Castle, HSBC UK was quick to understand the scope of our thinking and match our ambition to create a perfect, fairy-tale wedding and events venue for North Yorkshire.

“We’re thrilled to be starting this next chapter with the opening of the castle and hope to welcome the public soon.”

The Stable at Cross Butts currently operates as a high-end restaurant with accommodation, also catering for weddings in their idyllic barn set up. The new acquisition will allow the group to expand on their luxury venue expertise, diversifying the businesses wedding offering.

The castle went on sale in 2018 for the first time since 1905, and will finally receive a new lease of life, creating new jobs for the local economy. The castle previously hosted 17 guest rooms in a refurbished house on the grounds of the castle before its closure in 2017.
