From the Alps to the Andes: La Paz, Bolivia

April 27, 2012 § Leave a comment

The Girl Outdoors has relocated from a tiny Alpine village to the bustling city of La Paz, in Bolivia.

It’s an unbelievable place, in which markets sell llama fetuses for magical purposes, every street corner has a stall manned by a bowler-hatted Cholita offering fruit and pastries, the squares are flanked by beautiful, crumbling colonial mansions and the ponderous peaks of Illimani mountain tower over everything like a guardian. It’s straight out of 100 Years of Solitude.

We are off to Lake Titicaca next weekend and are biking the most dangerous road in the world soon. I’m sure I’ll survive.
