Preparations underway for GU East Zone Youth Festival at Rangapara College

TEZPUR, Oct 8: Rangapara College in the district of Sonitpur is abuzz with preparations to host the Gauhati University East Zone Youth Festival, scheduled to take place from October 15th to 17th, featuring three days of vibrant events. Dr Ranjan Kalita, Principal of Rangapara College and President of the organizing committee, shared insights about the upcoming festival.

Approximately hundreds of selected students from colleges and institutions affiliated with the GU Sports Board under five districts of Assam, including Sonitpur, Biswanath, Nagaon, Hojai, and Darrang, are expected to participate in this grand event.

Dr Kalita detailed the opening day’s program, which will begin with the unfurling of the Gauhati University flag by Prof Pratapjyoti Handique, the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, the GU Sports Board flag by Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati, the Secretary of the GU Sports Board, and the Rangapara College flag by Dr Ranjan Kalita himself. The flag hoisting will be followed by the inauguration of the East Zone Youth Festival by GU Vice Chancellor Prof. Pratapjyoti Handique. Assam’s education minister, Ranoj Pegu, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, with MP Tezpur Pallab Lochan Das and MLA Rangapara Krishna Kamal Tanti as distinguished guests, and District Commissioner Sonitpur Deba Kumar Mishra as the Guest of Honour.

The three-day mega-event will feature competitions encompassing various talents from nearly thirty colleges in the East Zone. These competitions will include one-act plays, skits, mime performances, mimicry, spot photography, poster making, on-the-spot painting, cartooning, collage, clay modeling, debates, quizzes, elocution, poetry recitation, magazine competitions, folk orchestras, folk dances, classical and light vocal performances, percussions and non-percussions, Bhupendra songs, Parbati Prasad Baruah songs, Jyoti Sangeet, Bishnu Rabha songs, classical and semi-classical music, Western songs, bon-geet, borgeet, songs of Jayanta Hazarika, Assamese sugam sangeet, traditional folk songs, tribal dances, tribal songs, and Rabindra Sangeet competitions.

Dr Ranjan Kalita, along with Executive President Aswini Kumar Deka and Secretary Prashanta Boro, earnestly call upon all concerned parties to extend their support and cooperation to ensure the success of this grand program.
