Welcome to Cortijo El Mirador

Quintessential AndaluCia with luxurious details

A typical Andalucian country home, Cortijo el Mirador sits on private rural estate where a dream Spanish break means scenic seclusion, dramatic vistas, soft textiles and a personal chef serving up the best local cuisine.

Cortijo el Mirador imbues the essence of Andalucia into one single property: a refined Spanish country estate, located near the heart of Spain’s cultural capital of Malaga.

You’ll feel it the first time you drive to the property, where spectacular hilltop vistas stretch across three mountain ranges and the distant Mediterranean Sea, its blue depths reaching south into Morocco. In Spain, the “Mirador” is where you stop for a few minutes to take in the view, but here, its all yours for as long as you stay!

This 300 square-metre home, set on 10 scenic acres, establishes a new standard for bespoke luxury: the attention and amenities of a five-star hotel, with the intimacy and exclusivity of a private villa. But it’s the setting and sights at Cortijo el Mirador that steal the show, they are enough to lure and keep you outdoors for the duration.

Of course, one look at the estate’s traditional architecture, antique fireplaces, whitewashed walls and even whiter linens, and you’ll be just as happy indoors during cooler months. Add in daily housecleaning and breakfast service, and a private Michelin-standard chef as an optional extra, you’ll soon see how tempting it would be to stay forever. The Cortijo stands for pure escapism, a country estate miles from the nearest village, and farther still from the cares of the world.

For larger groups and extended families, Cortijo el Mirador shares its 10-acre estate with sister property, The Mirador Lodge, which can accommodate an additional 6 guests. The two homes are close enough to combine for group use, but completely independent, private and separated by mature gardens.

Antiquity and modernity, married in AndaluCian style

The beauty of Spanish country architecture, local antiques and modern luxuries combine at Cortijo el Mirador, a luxury estate where everything is contemplated for your comfort and pleasure.

Enter The Cortijo and you’ll discover quintessential Andalucia. This classic cortijo exudes Spanish class and style, with sun-kissed interiors that marry the best of old and new. Behind modern luxuries lie handcrafted furnishings, hand-stitched Suzani tapestries and Spanish antiques lend authenticity to the home’s interior design, a sympathetic and nostalgic homage to the customs, heritage and architecture of Andalucia.

With four double bedrooms (two en-suite), four bathrooms, four reception rooms with fireplaces, The Cortijo is a home built for gatherings of groups up to eight sleeping, with additional capacity to invite guests to celebrate a special event in the Malaga mountains. Set all on one level, the estate’s warm terracotta tiles, soft white textiles and elegant whitewashed finishes invite you to relax, unwind and lock in with close friends and family.

A small entrance hall opens onto the living room, where deep sofas surround a fireplace, the perfect choice for a long evening’s conversation with a glass of something chilled. The drawing room, drawing room terrace, lounge terrace and library promise two additional fireplaces for cooler evenings, and ample space to rest and rejuvenate.

The dining room, with its billowing curtains and glass doors, offers seating for eight. The space opens onto an accommodating kitchen, complete with a Lacanche gourmet range and Siemens appliances, including an American-style refrigerator and freezer. Of course, if you don’t feel like doing the cooking just let us know. The owners have their own personal chefs available to prepare your next epicurean feast*.

Secluded pool, Mediterranean vistas and olive groves at your feet

Stretch out at the pool, where top-of-the-world views reveal olive and almond groves, wine orchards, three mountain ranges and the glimmering Mediterranean.

From its picturesque hilltop perch, Cortijo el Mirador slopes down on three sides to reveal the natural wonders of Malaga and Andalucia. Almond and olive groves, and an onsite vineyard unfold at your feet.

Three mountain ranges converge around the villa, where the vista hops over verdant peaks and opens onto the magnificent Mediterranean, its sapphire fingers reaching south to caress Morocco’s golden coast.

The enclosed front courtyard, with its leafy foliage and gurgling fountain, offers a warm welcome to The Cortijo. The courtyard opens onto stairs that lead out onto your private terrace, where you’ll find seating for 10. Wind down the steps to the lap pool, where a built-in barbecue, lounge chairs, marble dining table and water garden all enjoy The Cortijo’s famed ‘top-of-the-world’ views. The poolside garden and its equally inviting spa cabana are ideal choices for wellness and beauty treatments with a view.

You’ll enjoy exploring The Cortijo’s 10 acres, which it shares with sister rental The Mirador Lodge. From the main road, panoramic Mediterranean Sea vistas are both inspiring and spectacular. There are old ruins to explore, paths to walk, and landscaped gardens of herbs, vegetables, lavender and agaves, aloes and pines.

Enjoy the local area

A sublime setting among eagles and olive groves.

El Mirador Lodge is located inland above Lake Vinuela, close to the charming white villages of Canillas de Aceituno and Alcaucin in one of Andalucia’s most unexplored yet accessible areas. This eastern part of Malaga province is known as the Axarquia and offers some breathtakingly spectacular landscapes whether it be turquoise sea and coastal coves or mountains reached by stunning, snaking mountain roads. This is real Spain.

With a tropical climate perfect for producing Moscatel wines, this region of Malaga province is bordered by the sea to the south, and two mountain ranges – the Sierra de Aljama to the north and east, and the Montes de Malaga to the west. You can easily explore neighbouring towns of Velez-Malaga, known as the capital of this region, with its restored castle, then on to Colmenar and Comares; Torrox, to reach Competa; and Nerja, for Frigiliana, one of the prettiest of the Spanish ‘Pueblos Blancos.’

For more of a city vibe, a easy day trip is Malaga and explore the stylish old town, bustling tapas bars and many museums and galleries, before sipping cocktails in one of the cities roof-top hangouts overlooking the magnificent ancient Alcazaba Palace.

A stay at Casa Miravista is also gourmet heaven, with a local climate rich for Andalucian produce from tropical fruit and avocados, to olive oil and wine. The Axarquia offers a wide choice of local restaurants to keep the most avid foodies thoroughly satisfied! Check out some of our foodie suggestions in Spain in Style.

Other local amenities include:

  • Nearest Beach: Torre del Mar (27.2km), Nerja (47.8km)
  • Supermarkets: Small local shops are located in the nearby villages of Alcaucín (3.7km) and Canillas de Aceituno (7.3km) but hosts will arrange pre-arrival shopping. Large supermarkets are 24km away in Velez-Malaga.
  • Restaurants: La Sociedad and El Bodegon De Juan Maria in Canillas de Aceituno (7.3km) are recommended by the villa owners (and us) and are famous for their traditional Spanish cooking.
  • Golf: Baviera Golf (37 minute drive) Añoreta Golf (Benajarafe, 40 minute drive)

Outdoor Activities:

Fans of outdoor pursuits will be spoilt for choice during their stay. The property is located on the doorstep of some of the best hiking trails in Malaga such as El Saltillo joining the villages of Canillas de Aceituno and Sedella. And for the more adventurous a seven-hour hike which will take you to the summit of the province’s highest mountain range – La Maroma at 2069m.

If you’d prefer to get your blood pumping on a bike ride, there are also some fabulous mountain biking tracks and road cycling in the countryside – and the property’s’ dedicated concierge team would be more than happy to arrange a guided tour of the best with a local expert.

Heading down to the coast we recommend the coastline of Nerja/Maro, hire a boat, kayak or paddle board and go exploring. Waterfalls, coves, abundant sea life and private beaches await you at this spectacular stretch of coast.
