Rehabilitate Rural Schools, Calabar ITU Road, NUJ Pleads

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council has appealed to the Akwa Ibom State Government to considered the rehabilitation of public primary and secondary schools in the rural areas of the state.

This was part of a communiqué issued at the end of the state congress of the union held at the Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and signed by Comrade Amos Etuk, State Chairman, Comrade Dominic Akpan, State Secretary.


Commending the efforts of the State Government in the area of infrastructure rehabilitation in public schools across Akwa Ibom State the union appealed to the authorities to do more, especially with emphasis on schools in the rural areas.

The congress also appealed to the State Government to facilitate the construction of the Calabar-Itu Highway to ease the sufferings of commuters.

The communiqué called on the State Government to complete the abandoned Ring Road crossing Information Drive or consider carrying out urgent remedial work on the failed portions of the road.

On ticketing holiday granted traders and tricyclists, congress called on the State Government to take a step further by monitoring its implementation, and arrest persons flouting the order.

The congress declared her support for the ongoing forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), as the exercise will help in repositioning the Agency for effective discharge of its mandate.

The communique frowned at a "Media" Awards organized by Dakkada Ibom Media and distances itself from the said event.


The union commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for the improved health infrastructure across the State and Governor Udom Emmanuel for adopting proactive measures in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic in Akwa Ibom State.

The congress passed a vote of confidence on the Comrade Amos Etuk-led administration for a superlative performance in the last one year.
